Tata Motors tests export markets for EVs, to roll out EV-only dealerships in India
Tata Motors, India's biggest electric carmaker, is testing its electric vehicles in some global markets where it could look at a potential launch if the experiment succeeds, its managing director told Reuters. The tests are in early stages and based on how the cars perform, Tata may need to make some changes to the product before it can finalise and develop a «go to market» strategy, Shailesh Chandra said in an interview. «It is about which markets I should be in, with what products and with what kind of distribution strategy. We are assessing some markets, running our cars, discussing with business partners,» he said. Chandra said it was too early to discuss details of the export markets and there would be more clarity next year. Tata also plans to roll out new car dealerships over coming quarters in some Indian cities that will exclusively sell EVs as sales of its clean cars gain momentum and it lines up faster launches of new electric models, Chandra said. Sales of EVs globally have been growing as tighter emission regulations push carmakers to increase the share of electric cars in their portfolio.

Vivek Agnihotri & Anil Sharma hit back at Naseeruddin Shah for slamming ‘Gadar 2’ & ‘The Kashmir Files’, directors say actor is ‘frustrated’
Naseeruddin Shah recently expressed alarm at the trend of excessively nationalistic films hitting the bull’s eye at the box-office. Referring to two movies of this ilk — the Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel-starrer ‘Gadar 2’ and the controversial movie ‘The Kashmir Files’, the actor said such jingoistic movies are creating great harm, by perpetuating hatred against Pakistan as well as the Muslim community. Talking to the Free Press Journal, the ‘Mirch Masala’ actor said, “Now the more jingoist you are, the more popular you become because this is what has been ruling this country. It’s not enough to love your country but beat drums about it and you have to create imaginary enemies.

People who cultivate their own vegetables tend to eat more healthy, live longer: Study
Food waste is not only damaging to your pocket, it's also bad for the environment too. Globally, 1.3 billion tonnes of food are wasted every year, generating about 8% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions arise from unused food at all stages of the food supply chain, from production to decomposition. However, our recent study revealed that those who grow their own food in gardens and allotments waste an average of just 3.4kg of fruits and vegetables — 95% less than the UK average. These households adopted various practices to minimise food waste, including preserving or giving away their excess produce. There has been renewed interest in growing fresh produce in gardens, community gardens and allotments in the UK and elsewhere in recent years. But the available supply of allotments is not enough to meet increasing demand. Allocating more land for household fruit and vegetable production could make a significant contribution to the availability of fresh produce for urban residents.Research has shown that using a mere 10% of the available space in the English city of Sheffield for food cultivation could supply enough fruit and vegetables to meet the needs of 15% of the city's population. And more people growing their own food could also reduce waste.

Not happy with your IETLS score? Now you can retake single modules
study abroad can now retake a single module of their English language proficiency test, if they aren't happy with the scores. Officials have announced the introduction of 'IELTS One Skill Retake,' a convenient option available at eligible IELTS Computer Delivered test centers across India. This initiative lets test takers retake one of the four essential language skills — Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking — if they feel their initial performance did not meet their expectations. Currently, this feature is exclusively offered to those who have opted for the Computer Delivered IELTS test. After choosing the 'IELTS One Skill Retake,' test takers will receive a second Test Report Form (TRF) reflecting their new score. This TRF can be used to apply for their migration and study abroad applications. Depending on their score, test takers can decide whether to use their old or new TRF for the skill they choose to retake. The 'IELTS One Skill Retake' gained recognition and acceptance from various authoritative bodies, including the Australian Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency, and an increasing number of universities and institutions each month.

Wipro aims to be among top three companies in lighting industry by FY25-end
Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting is aiming to be among the top three companies in the lighting segment by FY2024-25-end, growing faster than the industry average despite challenges related to inflation and low rural consumer demand, a company official said. The company, part of Wipro Enterprises, entered into the home appliances segment more than a year ago, with the launch of the products into the mid to premium segment. Currently, its appliances are an online exclusive brand, available on e-commerce channels, however, it has plans to go offline also, said Sanjay Gupta, Senior Vice President, Consumer Lighting & Switches at Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting. In FY 2022-23, Wipro's Lighting business achieved a remarkable double-digit growth, crossing Rs 1,000 crore revenue. When asked about the growth, Gupta told PTI: «Moving forward, we are confident in our ability to outpace industry growth rates, despite encountering some demand-side challenges in the B2C Lighting segment.» «To sustain this momentum, we have established ambitious growth targets, aiming to secure a spot among the top three players in the Lighting industry by the close of the fiscal year 2025,» he added. Wipro's lighting business is divided into two segments B2C and B2B — contributing 60 and 40 per cent, respectively — in the top line. According to Gupta, there has been a slowdown in the demand for the last one year in the B2C business because of inflation and other factors. «However B2B business is doing very well because of the new infrastructure projects.

EXCLUSIVE: Premier Doug Ford’s 2018 mandate letters demanded savings by ‘year two’
Ontario Premier Doug Ford took over the reins of the provincial government in 2018, he was determined to expedite a central campaign promise: make government more efficient by shaving four cents of every dollar spent by Queen’s Park.Instead, the Progressive Conservative government’s first budget, delivered by then-finance minister Vic Fedeli in 2019, triggered a firestorm of controversy over the planned cuts in spending and likely led to Fedeli’s removal from the position.Fedeli’s instructions, however, came directly from Premier Ford who set out a three-year timeline to balance the budget, leading to billions of dollars slashed from the fiscal plan. For the first time, Global News can reveal the financial mandates given to the Minister of Finance, Treasury Board president and all cabinet ministers, instructing them to “identify efficiencies and savings” in their individual ministries. The information comes from mandate letters obtained, exclusively, by Global News.Ford’s instructions to his cabinet ministers in 2018 made it clear that his government intended to usher in a culture change, one that was focused on spending restraint and fiscal responsibility all while maintaining services residents rely on.“As we move ahead with our plan to restore a strong economy and to make life more affordable for the great people of this province, we will begin to do so by eliminating wasteful government spending, cutting red tape and by making government more efficient,” Ford said in his mandate letter addressed to all ministers.“This means reviewing all spending within your Ministry to identify efficiencies, program re-design, and savings that can be implemented over the course of our mandate.”To realize maximum efficiencies on a

Thrust of UN reform has to be to 'democratise' Security Council: UNGA President
UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis has said it is «incongruous» that only five countries can exercise certain powers within the UN Security Council, underlining that the thrust of reform has to be to «democratise» the powerful UN organ, making it more fit for purpose in the 21st century. «It's not untrue that the architecture of the Security Council was designed a very long time ago, decades ago when geographically and geopolitically the world was a very different place,» Francis, President of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, told PTI in an exclusive interview. Francis said many countries did not exist at the time when the UN Security Council was formed more than seven decades ago, particularly developing countries in the Global South and «countries like my own Trinidad and Tobago. We would at that time have been represented by the British. »But the world has changed.
