City Champions Summit, hosted by Josh Talks, on Saturday, 16 innovative startups were celebrated for their groundbreaking work in transforming India’s urban landscapes. The Summit is supported by Omidyar Network India and was held at The Claridges, New Delhi. The event convened the leaders in urban development underscoring the future of sustainable, inclusive cities. This summit culminates a three-month accelerator program which was designed by Josh Talks in partnership with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park with the aim nurture 16 impact startups working across sectors such as climate action, transport, city planning, energy and more. These startups were handpicked through a rigorous evaluation process from over 350 applicants. The City Champions program began in April this year by inviting applications across 8 thematic sectors. The accelerator program kicked-off in late July and included exposure to 16 startups through virtual sessions with industry leaders, 1:1 mentorship from IIM-C experts, access to funders and potential business partners through physical boot camps held across Kolkata, Bengaluru and Delhi.

Tech behemoth OpenAI has touted its artificial intelligence-powered transcription tool Whisper as having near «human level robustness and accuracy.» But Whisper has a major flaw: It is prone to making up chunks of text or even entire sentences, according to interviews with more than a dozen software engineers, developers and academic researchers. Those experts said some of the invented text — known in the industry as hallucinations — can include racial commentary, violent rhetoric and even imagined medical treatments. Experts said that such fabrications are problematic because Whisper is being used in a slew of industries worldwide to translate and transcribe interviews, generate text in popular consumer technologies and create subtitles for videos.

West Bengal due to cyclone Dana, taking the toll to four, officials said on Saturday. A civic volunteer, identified as Chandan Das (31), died on the spot when he allegedly touched a live wire in Bud Bud in Purba Bardhaman district. Speaking in Washington, D.C., at the IMFC Plenary session on «Managing Director's Global Policy Agenda,» on Friday, Sitharaman emphasized that sovereign ratings should more accurately reflect the economic fundamentals of EMDEs, ensuring fair access to capital and improved ability to attract private investment. «There is need for sovereign ratings to adequately account for EMDEs economic fundamentals to ensure the cost of capital for them and their ability to attract private capital is factored in,» Sitharaman said.
