Demand under rural job scheme drops for 11th straight month
rural employment scheme fell for the 11th consecutive month in September from a year before, a decline that experts attributed to the impact of strong economic activities that open up more remunerative job opportunities and to a favourable base effect. About 18.93 million people sought work in September under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), down 14.2% year-on-year, showed preliminary data compiled by the rural development ministry.

Uddhav Thackeray has been admitted to hospital in Mumbai for angioplasty. Back in 2016, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray discharged from the Lilavati Hospital here after he underwent angiography. The procedure was a follow-up to the angioplasty which he had had on July 20, 2012, when doctors put in eight stents to remove the multiple blockages he had in three main arteries in his heart. The party chief underwent a second angioplasty in November 2012. At the time, the doctors removed the blockages in the left anterior descending artery (LAD), which was blocked by almost 60 per cent.

All settled? Cheryl Hines and RFK Jr spotted holding hands amid scandal
Cheryl Hines and husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr walk hand in hand on a Cape Cod beach out October 12. The visit is just the latest in a long string of rumors swirling around Kennedy and her purported affair with journalist Olivia Nuzzi. Hines, 59, sported a laid-back athleisure look as if she was waiting for Kennedy to come back by joining him on the beach, as per a report. After news of the relationship with Kennedy broke, New York Magazine suspended Nuzzi's grant. While neither the magazine nor Nuzzi named Kennedy in their respective reports, CNN and other outlets quickly connected him to it. Nuzzi also denied having been in a sexual relationship with Kennedy, though she admitted that it would have constituted a conflict of interest had she reported the story without revealing their connection, US Weekly reported. RG Kar rape-murder: No outcome as West Bengal Chief Secretary sppeals to junior doctors to end hunger strike
Bengal Chief Secretary on Monday urged the agitating junior doctors to withdraw their hunger strike stating that seven of their ten demands have been met, and expressed concern over their health condition. However, the protest continued even after Chief Secretary Manoj Pant held a meeting with different senior doctors' associations, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA), on Monday. Meanwhile, the West Bengal Junior Doctor's Front (WBJDF) held a Raj Bhawan 'abhijaan' (march) on Monday and submitted a deputation to Governor CV Ananda Bose, seeking justice for the deceased doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital on August 9. At least 12 doctors' organisations met the state administration, led by the chief secretary, home secretary and other senior health officials, at the Health Department Swasthya Bhawan. WBJDF members were not present at the meeting even as the fast-unto-death protest taken up by WBJDF at Esplanade entered the tenth day on Monday.

Stunning discovery in Denmark: 50 exceptionally well preserved skeletons unearthed. Do they hint at hidden society?
Viking burial site in Denmark, revealing more than 50 exceptionally well-preserved skeletons that could hold important clues to the Viking era, a period from 793 to 1066 A.D. «This is such an exciting find because we found these skeletons that are so very, very well preserved,» archeologist Michael Borre Lundø told news agency AP, who led the six-month dig. «Normally, we would be lucky to find a few teeth in the graves, but here we have entire skeletons.» According to experts from Museum Odense the skeletons were preserved due to favourable soil chemistry, particularly chalk and high water levels. The site was discovered last year during a routine survey, on the outskirts of the village of Aasum, 5 kilometres, northeast of Odense, Denmark's third-largest city.

Car sales in India: Slow start in FY25 but festive season boost expected
Car sales in the first half of the fiscal year has been slower than expected, but with the onset of the festive season demand is expected to gain momentum helping bringing down stocks in the network, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Shailesh Chandra said. As per data available with the industry body, sales of cars, sedans and utility vehicles went up by a modest 0.5% to 2,081,143 units between April and September FY25, signalling a weakening of demand in the third largest automobile market in the world. Passenger vehicle sales in India rose by 8.4% to a record 4.22 million units in FY24. Chandra said, “The expectation was slightly better than (sales growth being) flattish. While April was good, sales in May and June did not play out as per expectation, which impacted industry volumes adversely. In September too, two weeks of Shraddh (considered by consumers as inauspicious for making purchases) affected retails. But now with the start of festival period, sales on-ground seem to be doing well.”

Angelina Jolie is delighted as Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s latest movie Wolfs gets yanked from cinemas
George Clooney film Wolfs was pulled from theaters and plopped straight on to Apple TV+ streaming, which reportedly pleased the one woman he may not love — Angelina Jolie. Sources tell us that Jolie is thrilled with the short theatrical run and switch to streaming for the film, particularly now that she's riding on a successful press tour with her own movie, Maria, which was bankrolled by Netflix, as per a report. This sudden withdrawal of Wolfs by Apple TV+ just weeks after a limited release from the cinema has left Pitt, Clooney, and their teams scratching their heads in anger. A source has claimed that this decision has come as the biggest blow for both the actors, who earlier had managed to bargain for a theatrical release. Change of this kind has shocked several people, including the director Jon Watts, who expressed his feelings by arguing that the movie was made to be seen at the theaters, InTouch reported.
