markets COST UPS Extreme CBOE show Crash or soar? Traders are preparing for stock market extremes
With the stock market sitting at an all-time high as the second quarter begins, the tells for what traders are thinking lie in the options market. Demand for put options that pay off if there’s a minor correction is around the lowest in years. Meanwhile, traders are quietly picking up tail-risk hedges: instruments that do little if there’s a slight downdraft but offer protection if stocks swing wildly.

markets COST UPS Extreme Intuit wellness Healthcare 6 Daniel Kahneman principles to follow to avoid losing money
Daniel Kahneman, who passed away on 27 March at the age of 90, told us that our ability to make good decisions is not as easy as it appears. We rely too much on intuition for decisions that need deep and analytical thinking. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the process of making financial decisions. Here are the six mistakes Kahneman points out that can help investors avoid big money losses. 1.The Halo Effect The tendency to like everything about a person/management towards which investors have an affinity. A prime example is Asian Paints, a company that has been the darling of fund managers who look at ‘quality’ as their biggest parameter. These are companies that have high price-to-earnings (PE) ratios, but have built a ‘halo effect’, which basically states that irrespective of their valuations, these stocks will continue to give high returns. Over the past one year, the Asian Paints share has moved up by only 2%, against 30% rise in the Nifty. Even on a fiveyear basis, Asian Paints has lagged the Nifty. While the Nifty 50 rose 92%, Asian Paints rose 90%. The company had a PE ratio of 98x in 2021-22, which has now come down to almost 50x.

markets UPS FIVE Extreme CEO stage 'Sequence of returns’ risk can wreck your retirement planning: How to protect retirement corpus from it
Chances are that you did not account for the exact pattern of gains or losses, or the order in which your investment returns occur. This is what is referred to as ‘sequence of returns’ risk. It is the risk of negative returns occurring later in your working years and/or early in your retirement life. It particularly comes into play during the five years before and five years after retirement— the ‘fragile decade’. Investors in this phase of their lives are most vulnerable to sequence of returns risk. Why is this risk a killer? Let us see with an example. Suppose two investors, A and B, start their retirement years with the same corpus of Rs.1 crore. They avoid withdrawals for the initial 10 years. Two different market scenarios play out for A and B, where the returns are identical, except that they occur in reverse order. A’s portfolio witnesses higher returns in the initial years, but lower returns than B’s portfolio in later years. In both scenarios, the Rs.1 crore initial pot would fetch the same amount of Rs.1.75 crore at the end of 10 years, with the market averaging 7.3% return annually. Both are on an even footing, despite a contrasting pattern of market returns.

UPS Progressive Extreme economy wellness trends AI could drive up the neutral rate of interest in an economy
As improvements in artificial intelligence (AI) continue apace, so do questions about how AI will influence economies, asset prices and—the question of the moment—interest rates in America: Is AI more likely to make them go up or down? You might think economists would have a simple handle on such a straightforward query, but the both macroeconomics and AI are complex. Nevertheless, I have a bold prediction: Real or inflation-adjusted rates will go up, and for a considerable period of time. The conventional wisdom is that rates tend to fall as wealth and productivity rise in an economy.
