UPS Fighting Remark stage country INDIA bloc underlines 'accommodative spirit', Rahul Gandhi says BJP will be defeated if they fight unitedly
INDIA bloc leaders on Friday vowed to finalise seat sharing in an accommodative spirit, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claiming the alliance represents 60 per cent of the country's population and will easily defeat the BJP if it fights the Lok Sabha polls unitedly. Amid speculation of early polls and the government setting up a panel to explore the possibility of 'one nation, one election', leaders from 28 Opposition parties took crucial decisions at their conclave here, including setting up a 14-member coordination committee which will be the top decision-making body of the alliance and start work on seat sharing. Addressing a joint press conference after the two-day brainstorming here on crystallising the alliance's structure, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged the BJP-led government was stealing from the poor to help big industrialists.

COST UPS Target Fighting country Mumbai INDIA alliance will fight 'mitra parivarvad', says Uddhav after oppn conclave in Mumbai
UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray on Friday asserted the INDIA bloc will fight and defeat «mitra parivarvad», an oblique reference to crony capitalism, in the country as the opposition grouping wrapped up its two-day conclave in Mumbai. Speaking at a press conference organised after the end of the third meeting of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), Thackeray, who hosted the gathering, said the bloc consisting of more than two dozen political outfits is a coalition of patriotic parties ranged against «mitra parivarvad». «When elections come there is slogan of 'sabka saath sabka vikas (togetherness of all, development for all)...but after elections are over it is sabko laath and mitron ka vikas (development of friends by ignoring others). We will not allow this,» said the former Maharashtra CM. Opposition parties have often accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of indulging in crony capitalism, a charge rejected by the ruling outfit which has sought to portray its rivals as corrupt and practising nepotism. Thackeray maintained the two-day meeting took some important decisions and resolved to set up coordination committees.

Lowe's BLOCK Action Fighting track cover Deal California case could deal blow to high-interest online lenders in the US
California judge is poised to decide if an online lender offering small loans at over 150% interest violates state law, which would deal a blow to finance companies that critics argue have skirted rate caps to profit from cash-strapped borrowers. The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) is seeking a ruling that would block Chicago-based Opportunity Financial (OppFi) from offering loans with an interest rate above California's maximum of 36%. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Timothy Dillon is expected to rule any day. Legal experts say that if California wins, it could embolden other states to take action against lenders that make high-interest loans to low-income borrowers using what critics call «rent a bank» partnerships. Critics say the partnerships allow some fintech lenders, which offer quick loans online, to get around the interest-rate caps most states impose on nonbanks by partnering with banks in states like Utah, where there is no interest rate cap. The lenders themselves say the partnerships help smaller state banks compete and fill a void for borrowers with low credit scores who need emergency cash for unexpected expenses like car repairs and medical care. According to a 2022 survey by the Federal Reserve, 37% of adults in the U.S.

COST Target Reuters CEO Fighting track Swedish payments major Klarna hits monthly profitability ahead of target as losses shrink
Klarna Bank reported on Thursday a much smaller six-month operating loss than a year earlier and said it had reached profitability on a monthly basis ahead of target. The January-June operating loss at the privately held (BNPL) fintech, which last made a full-year profit in 2018, was 2.01 billion crowns ($185 million) against a year-earlier loss of 6.17 billion crowns. «We posted a small profit in May,» CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski told Reuters. «We feel very confident that we'll be posting a profitable quarter very soon and then eventually also a full profitable year.» Klarna allows shoppers to buy online through its merchant partners and settle their dues in instalments using its «buy now, pay later» (BNPL) service. In May, it said it was on track to reach profitability on a monthly basis in the second half of the year. Last year, business conditions deteriorated as soaring inflation and the war in Ukraine hit consumer confidence, prompting it to cut staff and sending its valuation tumbling. Siemiatkowski said in the interview that Klarna had no need in the foreseeable future to raise more funds. Klarna last raised funds in 2022 at a valuation of $6.7 billion, down around 85% from the $46 billion price tag it attracted in 2021.

Fighting country BJP slams INDIA bloc as 'selfish alliance' aimed at promoting interests of some families
BJP on Thursday slammed the opposition INDIA bloc as a «selfish alliance» aimed at promoting and protecting the interests of families at the helm of its member parties. With 28 opposition parties meeting in Mumbai to give concrete shape to their agenda against the BJP, the ruling party's spokesperson Sambit Patra said the Congress' «missile» will never launch as it has no fuel. The BJP's Chandrayaan will successfully land for a third time in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls as it is fuelled by development, he told reporters, drawing an analogy with the country's historic lunar exploration mission. «The CMP (common minimum programme) being discussed in the INDIA alliance is, in fact, all about having „corruption's maximum profit“ as all these parties together represent scams worth over Rs 20 lakh crore,» he alleged. Their other aim is to deliver a blow to the stable and pro-development dispensation running under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, he added. Patra said the opposition's attempt to come together is a game of musical chairs and that these parties engage before every election against the BJP even though their own alliance is marked by mutual fight and one-upmanship over who will be the prime ministerial face. This «ghamandia alliance» is a selfish grouping, he said, alleging that leaders like Sonia Gandhi and Lalu Prasad Yadav are more likely to be driven by the future of their children in politics than the country's development. Their goal is «maximum parivarvaad», he claimed.
