Mercedes have announced extending the contract with its old and reputed Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton till the end of the 2025 season. After beginning his F1 career with McLaren in 2007, Hamilton joined Mercedes in 2013 and he shares the record number of world F1 titles with Michael Schumacher. With 103, he holds the record for F1 world race wins.
The 2022 season has been a disappointment for him as it has been dominated by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and he has not won a single title so far. In a press statement published online, Mercedes said, “The Team is delighted to announce that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will continue to lead its driver line-up for the next two seasons. The duo has been paired together since the start of the 2022 season and each driver continues long-standing relationships with the team.”
Replying to this, Lewis Hamilton said, “We have never been hungrier to win. We have learned from every success but also every setback. We continue to chase our dreams, we continue to fight no matter the challenge and we will win again. I’m grateful to the team who have supported me both on and off the track. Our story isn’t finished, we are determined to achieve more together and we won’t stop until we do.”
With this, it is clear that Hamilton is not retiring now and he will participate in F1 races even at the age of 40. His teammate George Russell also has extended his contract with Mercedes till the end of the 2025 season.
