Hamas says it accepts a new Gaza ceasefire proposal but Israel makes a counter-offer
Early in the week, an Egyptian official described the proposal to The Associated Press, saying Hamas would release five living hostages, including an American-Israeli, from Gaza in return for Israel allowing aid into the territory and a weekslong pause in fighting. Israel would release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief media on the closed-door talks. On Saturday, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave no details about Israel's counter-proposal, which it said was offered after Netanyahu held consultations on Friday. Israel a week and a half ago ended its ceasefire with Hamas by launching a surprise wave of strikes that killed hundreds of people. The White House blamed Hamas for the renewed fighting. Israel has vowed to escalate the war until Hamas returns the 59 hostages it still holds — 24 of them believed to be alive. Israel also wants Hamas to give up power, disarm and send its leaders into exile. On Saturday, Israel widened its ground operations in Gaza's southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt.

Tough day for Indian wrestlers at Senior Asian Wrestling Championship 2025
Freestyle Wrestling competition at the 2025 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship. According to a release from the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), in the 57kg category, Chirag, the 2024 U23 World Champion, faced an early exit after losing his first match to a Kyrgyz wrestler. His hopes of a repechage round were dashed when the Kyrgyz wrestler lost to a Mongolian opponent, eliminating Chirag's chances of a medal. In the 65kg category, Sujit started strong by winning his opening bout, keeping India's medal hopes alive. However, he lost to a Japanese wrestler in the next round and sustained an injury, forcing him to withdraw from the competition. Among other participants, Vishal Kaliraman (70kg), Chandermohan (79kg), and Jonty (97kg) also faced defeats in their respective bouts, ending their medal hopes. Looking ahead, five weight categories remain in the Freestyle Wrestling competition, with Udit (61kg) and Deepak Punia (92kg) expected to be strong medal contenders tomorrow.

JD Vance ‘touching up’ Trump’s Cheeto glow? "Hilarious yet horrifying" meme has the internet in stitches
American political satire, and the latest meme making rounds on social media is proof of that. The internet recently has found its newest obsession, an AI-generated video of Vice President JD Vance meticulously applying Cheeto dust to President Donald Trump’s face, as if he were his personal makeup artist. Yes, you read that right. The video, which has been widely shared, seems to draw inspiration from a satirical illustration by The New Yorker's Barry Blitt. The artwork, part of the Kvetchbook series, hilariously imagines Trump commenting on Vance’s supposed makeup habits, with the phrase, “Maybe tone it down with the Maybelline, Captain Eyeliner.” To which Vance responds, “Girl, look how orange you look.” See here If you've been online for more than five minutes, you’d know that jokes about Trump's tan are nothing new. His ever-changing skin tone, ranging from “mildly sun-kissed” to “radioactive tangerine”, has been a long-time favourite among meme makers. But this latest version takes it a step further by throwing JD Vance into the mix, who has been at the centre of his own internet ridicule due to speculation about his eyeliner use. Of course, social media had a field day. Some were amused, some were horrified, and some just couldn't look away.

Core sector growth slows to 5-month low in Feb; crude, natural gas output slips
India's core sector output slowed to a five-month low of 2.9% in February from 5.1% in January, as growth across most infrastructure sectors moderated, according to official data released Friday. The growth was 7.1% a year earlier and experts cited base effect for the slowdown last month. «The infrastructure output growth was the lowest in five months, hit by an unfavourable base effect,» said Paras Jasrai, associate director at India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra). The core sector comprises eight industries: coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity. Madan Sabnavis, chief economist at Bank of Baroda, noted that February's growth was primarily driven by strong performances in the steel and cement sectors. Six of these industries grew in February, with fertiliser output surging to a nearly two-year high of 10.2%.

Costco’s brand-new carrot cake bar divides the internet over 1 ingredient
Costco has brought back its beloved carrot cake in a new bar-shaped form this time. The three-layer dessert features a moist spiced carrot cake, cream cheese frosting, and chopped walnuts. The dessert is priced at $18.99 (£15). But the look is not the only thing that has changed about the dessert. The retailer has added one ingredient to its cake which has resulted in an uproar among the customers. The addition of raisins in their carrot cake has driven a wedge amongst those who enjoy the cake. According to reports, carrot cake enthusiasts are split on whether raisins belong in the classic recipe. Some have argued that it adds texture and sweetness, while others have insisted that it ruins the cake’s flavour.

Average Room Rates (ARRs) are expected to hover above Rs 8,000, reaching Rs 8,400-8,600 in FY26, while occupancy levels are likely to stabilize between 66-68% from FY25 to FY27.
