Costco has brought back its beloved carrot cake in a new bar-shaped form this time. The three-layer dessert features a moist spiced carrot cake, cream cheese frosting, and chopped walnuts. The dessert is priced at $18.99 (£15).
But the look is not the only thing that has changed about the dessert. The retailer has added one ingredient to its cake which has resulted in an uproar among the customers. The addition of raisins in their carrot cake has driven a wedge amongst those who enjoy the cake.
According to reports, carrot cake enthusiasts are split on whether raisins belong in the classic recipe. Some have argued that it adds texture and sweetness, while others have insisted that it ruins the cake’s flavour.
Food influencers and shoppers react
A People report quoted content creator and food influencer who goes by the handle Photogami that he was shocked with the addition of raisins in the cake. In his review video, posted on March 25, the influencer said that the cake’s texture and spice balance was good. He then stated that although he had enjoyed the overall flavour of the cake, he did not like the addition of the dried fruit. He even lowered his rating to a 7.4/ 10 because of the addition.

His followers were divided, with some people agreeing with him and others taking a different view. They said that they agree on raisins totally and added that it ruins the carrot cake. Others stated that nuts, raisins, and pineapple belong in a carrot cake. Some even suggested that the real issue was pineapple rather than the raisins.
