Election Commission acts swiftly on violations ahead of Lok Sabha polls
Election Commission directed the central and state governments to remove unauthorised political advertisements from public spaces. On March 20, the Commission, following reports of non-compliance, asked for confirmation of full compliance by 5 pm the next day. This would suggest the narrow window and urgency that election managers had, that other stakeholders may fail to appreciate. Fast Action On March 18, the EC transferred the home secretaries of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and the Director General of Police in West Bengal. Several DMs and SPs belonging to four states were transferred on March 21. One witnessed a spate of such transfers during the recent series of five assembly elections.

Congress questions CBI clearance for Praful Patel in 'Rs 30,000 crore Air India scam'
Congress has questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) closing a case against Praful Patel in the BJP-alleged irregularities in leasing aircraft for Air India, alleging that the former civil aviation minister is being let off for joining the ruling alliance after splitting NCP. The main opposition party has recycled BJP's 2014 election material, alleging a «Rs 30,000-crore Air India scam» and blaming Patel for it, and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come clean on his past statements against the UPA regime over the alleged «Air India scam» as well as BJP's allegations against Patel over purchasing a Mumbai property allegedly from terror accused Iqbal Mirchi's family. «Months after Praful Patel joined the BJP alliance in Maharashtra by splitting NCP, the CBI filed a closure report in a 2017 case of corruption, alleged by the BJP in its 2014 'Chargesheet',» Congress leader Pawan Khera said at an official briefing here on Saturday.

In U-turn, Shiv Sena leader Vijay Shivtare says won't contest Lok Sabha polls from Baramati
Shiv Sena leader Vijay Shivtare, who had declared that he would contest the Lok Sabha polls as an independent candidate from Maharashtra's Baramati constituency, changed his stand on Saturday. The leader of the Eknath Shinde-led party said he won't contest the polls from Baramati in Pune district, which is the political stronghold of NCP founder Sharad Pawar's family, and instead campaign for the ruling Mahayuti alliance. Shivtare's announcement comes amid speculation that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's wife Sunetra Pawar could be fielded from there as a candidate of the ruling NCP faction. Sharad Pawar, who now heads the NCP (SP), has already announced the candidature of his daughter and three-term Baramati MP Supriya Sule from the constituency.

Mutual funds: ₹1 lakh invested in this Tata scheme at inception would have grown to over ₹41 lakh now
mutual fund is considered a prudent way of creating wealth in a consistent way. The key reason behind this is compounding which allows small investment to grow multiple times over a long period of time. In the first few years, the return gets added to the investment and in the latter years of the fund’s tenure, the fund grows at a faster pace because of the initial incremental growth added to it.

Congress announces K V Gowtham as its Kolar Lok Sabha candidate
Congress on Saturday named K V Gowtham as its Kolar Lok Sabha candidate, ending imbrolgio within the party over the issue. Gowtham is the Bengaluru Central district Congress committee president. Hailing from Kolar, Gowtham is the son of former Bengaluru Mayor K V Vijay Kumar. Gowtham's candidature was in the offing ever since the discontent started brewing in the Kolar unit with five Congress legislators from the district and Karnataka Minister for Food and Civil Supplies K H Muniyappa threatening to resign over the issue. While Muniyappa wanted his son-in-law Chikka Peddanna to be fielded from Kolar and lobbied hard for him, the five legislators including minister M C Sudhakar threatened to resign enmasse if Peddanna was given a ticket. One more legislator said he will wait for the outcome before taking the 'final call'.
