Global audit framework for local bodies in the works: CAG
apex auditors of various nations, including India, are firming up an international framework for auditing regional and municipal bodies to gauge the performance of such grass-root level institutions, comptroller and auditor general (CAG) of India Girish Chandra Murmu said on Wednesday. India is planning to host a conference of the supreme audit institutions (SAIs) of Asia in September where a preliminary draft framework for such auditing standards could be deliberated on, Murmu said on the side lines of an event. As many as 262,000 local bodies exist in rural India alone, he said. Local bodies directly get a 4.2% of the Union government’s total divisible tax pool. A global framework assumes significance, as these local institutions play a crucial role in the implementation of various welfare programmes and other projects of both the Union and state governments in every nook and cranny of the nation. Better audit standards will not just result in greater transparency but also effective last-mile delivery of various schemes.

If GDP and corporate earnings grow, we will see reasonable returns from here: Mahesh Patil
Mahesh Patil, CIO, ABSL AMC, talking to ET Now at the sidelines of ABSL Voyage 2024, says “the theme of our event is Dominant Bharat. If you really believe that Bharat is going to be the third largest economy in the next seven years, and the GDP is going to grow at 7% plus, then you will see a lot of opportunities emerging. Corporate India growth has been very strong in the last two years and will continue to grow at a double digit rate. If that is the case, then while markets might consolidate a bit in the near term because of the huge outperformance, you will still make the long-term returns the markets have given.” 30 years of wealth management, 30 years of superlative CAGR returns. They say good news and good prices rarely come together. Right now, the news is great. But when the news is great, prices are bad. What is the way forward? What should be the message from Birla AMC? And what should be the takeaway for them? Mahesh Patil: Yes, good morning and welcome to this voyage event. I think we have been through this occasion and we have been trying to put forward our views. Okay, every time we come, okay, and talk over here, we are always worried. The market has reached a peak now. That is a common question which is there. But you are right, Last one year has been unprecedented. The kind of returns that we have seen and the market has been climbing the wall of worry.

Roll back the Big Indian State and relieve the middle-class
Speaking at an event on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I want to take the government out of the lives of people. Especially, I don’t approve of government interference in the lives of the middle-class. What is the need of the government everyday and at every step? We should create such a society where government interference is minimal." For the poor, the Indian state would offer support to fulfil basic needs, but for the rest, he said he would end unnecessary intervention as part of his governance agenda over the next five years.

Five to six Cong MLAs 'kidnapped', whisked away by CRPF and Haryana Police: Himachal CM Sukhu
Congress MLAs were "kidnapped" and whisked away by the CRPF and the Haryana Police. The allegation was made hours after the polling for the lone Rajya Sabha seat ended, amid concerns in the ruling Congress over cross-voting. There was also a buzz that if the Congress nominee fails to make it to the Rajya Sabha, the BJP could move a no-trust motion against the Sukhu government in the state assembly. A video surfaced online purportedly showing a small convoy of cars outside a guest house in Haryana's Panchkula. Congress MLA from Dharamshala Sudhir Sharma, an independent legislator and some BJP MLAs could be spotted in the clip.
