Sun TV Network has reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 454 crore in Q3, up 6.8% from Rs 425 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal. The company's total income was up 7.5% at Rs 1059 crore while operating revenue increased 4% to Rs 923 crore. Expenses rose 7.8% to Rs 451 crore.

Irdai on Wednesday proposed to increase the «free look» period for return of the policy to 30 days and make nomination mandatory for life policies. Currently, a policyholder can examine the insurance policy and opt out if not satisfied with any of the terms and conditions mentioned in the policy within the «free look» period of 15 days (30 days in case of electronic policies) from the date of receipt of policy document, by stating the reasons for the objection. In a draft Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Protection of Policyholders' Interests and Allied Matters of Insurers) Regulations, 2024, Irdai proposed to consolidate several provisions of the different laws related to insurance. On protection of interest of policyholders, the draft said, «The free-look period for the policies, obtained through any mode, shall be 30 days from the date of receipt of the policy document».

National Company Law Appellate Tribunal on Wednesday stayed the NCLT Mumbai bench order to initiate a corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) against Sporta Technologies, which operates the fantasy sports platform Dream 11. However, it has also directed the Interim Resolution Professional (IRP), appointed by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) after suspending the board of Dream 11, not to take any further steps till the next date of hearing, scheduled for February 23. A three-member bench of the appellate tribunal also issued notice to the IRP of Sporta Technologies and Resolution Professional of Reward Business Solution, directing them to file a reply within a week. «List this Appeal on 23.02.2024,» the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) order said, adding that «In the meantime, the order impugned shall remain stayed. No steps, till the next date shall be taken by the IRP in the CIRP».

The SFC acknowledged the need for wide-ranging consultations with various stakeholders, including state governments, local bodies, Union ministries, and experts, the statement said.

16th Finance Commission (XVI-FC) on Wednesday held its first meeting under the Chairmanship of Arvind Panagariya here. During the meeting, the commission discussed its Terms of Reference, as per the order by the President of India and notified by the Ministry of Finance on December 31, 2023, an official statement said. The distribution between the Union and states of the net proceeds of taxes, which are to be, or may be, divided between them under Chapter I, Part XII of the Constitution and the allocation between states of the respective shares of such proceeds, are among the Terms of Reference (ToR) approved by the Cabinet. Another ToR is about the principles governing the grants-in-aid of the revenues of states out of the Consolidated Fund of India and the sums to be paid to states by way of grants-in-aid of their revenues.

UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024 is now open. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the notification for the same earlier on February 14, with important information such as examination timings, number of vacancies, eligibility criteria, and examination pattern. According to the notification, there will be approximately 1056 vacancies this year, slightly less than 1,105 vacancies announced last year. Of the total vacancies this year, 40 are reserved for candidates with benchmark disabilities. These disabilities include blindness and low vision, deaf and hard of hearing, locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, muscular dystrophy, and multiple disabilities from amongst persons under the mentioned categories.
