We are in mature bull market; there is relative value in IT and pharma stocks: Pankaj Murarka
Pankaj Murarka, CIO, Renaissance Investment Managers, says “The Nifty index trading at about 20 times current year earnings is reasonable in the context of the strong earnings growth that we are witnessing. From here on, much of the gains on the indexes are done and markets will be more stock specific in that sense. And some correction at this level is pretty healthy for the medium term health of the market.”Going by the exceedingly volatile moves that we have witnessed in the broader markets, from the March lows first we have seen a meteoric rise and then yesterday, things were clearly shaken up. Is that an instance of the direction that the broader markets are headed in?We have had a phenomenal rally in the last six months and so a correction was probably much warranted and it is a healthy correction for the market because there are pockets of markets where we have seen stock prices have clearly run ahead of fundamentals and there has been a fair degree of exuberance or froth in midcap smallcap space. So, correction is much warranted. Aggregate markets are still reasonably priced.

Thrust of UN reform has to be to 'democratise' Security Council: UNGA President
UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis has said it is «incongruous» that only five countries can exercise certain powers within the UN Security Council, underlining that the thrust of reform has to be to «democratise» the powerful UN organ, making it more fit for purpose in the 21st century. «It's not untrue that the architecture of the Security Council was designed a very long time ago, decades ago when geographically and geopolitically the world was a very different place,» Francis, President of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, told PTI in an exclusive interview. Francis said many countries did not exist at the time when the UN Security Council was formed more than seven decades ago, particularly developing countries in the Global South and «countries like my own Trinidad and Tobago. We would at that time have been represented by the British. »But the world has changed.

KL Rahul's form gives India a 'good headache' for World Cup
Ishan Kishan has usually been India's go-to wicketkeeper for limited-overs matches this year but it is clear he cannot take his place for granted with KL Rahul hitting top form after returning from injury at the Asia Cup. Kishan appeared to be first-choice for the gloves, not just because he has four fifties in his last five one-day knocks but also for the left-handed variety that he brings in a batting lineup dominated by right-handers. Rahul's first two knocks since returning from a thigh injury, however, have ensured he remains in contention, creating the «good headache» that chief selector Ajit Agarkar had anticipated after picking both in the World Cup squad.Rahul had only five minutes to prepare for the blockbuster Asia Cup match against Pakistan after Shreyas Iyer was a last-minute withdrawal due to a back spasm. But in his first outing since his coming back from injury he smashed an unbeaten 111 and forged a brilliant stand with fellow centurion Virat Kohli to set up India's comprehensive victory against their arch-rivals. The elegant right-hander featured in another crucial partnership, this time with Kishan, in Tuesday's low-scoring contest against hosts Sri Lanka, which India won by 41 runs. Rahul also kept wicket for the majority of the Pakistan innings and throughout the Sri Lankan innings. «I have been keeping wicket for a long time, more than two years now actually,» Rahul told reporters, adding that he was comfortable with the dual role. «So it's not new for me, and the team management has told me that this would be my role in the squad — to play in the middle order and keep wicket.» Primarily a versatile batter comfortable in any position in the top and middle order, Rahul said he had honed his keeping

It is always better to cry without investing than cry after investing: Sunil Singhania
Sunil Singhania, Founder, Abakkus Asset Manager LLP, says “the only theme we follow is whether the company can double profits in four to five years and a lot of these themes are interesting and exciting. But the valuation at which the IPOs are coming and the stocks are getting listed is something which at least conservative investors like us cannot comprehend.”You have followed a template of 15-15-15, return ratio of 15%, growth 15%, and PE multiple of less than 15. Is that template still at play or the market conditions are forcing you to change that template? No, it is becoming difficult for sure.

Fed to leave rates unchanged on Sept 20; cut unlikely before Q2 2024
interest rate unchanged at the end of its Sept. 19-20 policy meeting and probably wait until the April-June period of 2024 or later before cutting it, according to economists in a Reuters poll.Fed Chair Jerome Powell underscored the «higher-for-longer» mantra for rates in a speech at the annual Jackson Hole central banking symposium in August and maintained another rate hike might still be needed to bring inflation down to the 2% target. But other members of the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), including some of the more hawkish ones, have raised the possibility of holding off on another rate hike to allow more time to gauge the impact of the cumulative 525 basis points of tightening delivered by the Fed since March 2022. More than 95% of economists, 94 of 97, in the Sept.
