COST UPS FIVE NIFTY Does the microfinance cycle have more legs? Ishmohit Arora answers
«So, broadly, the last three to six months, the entire rally in last one year is actually led by earnings growth. It is not just price growth,» says Ishmohit Arora, School of Intrinsic Compounding. Before we talk about market, give me a pulse of how is the sentiment on street among investors, young investors, HNI investors? Is it getting frothier in terms of behavioural finance? Are there so much excitement on street or is there caution even among them? The interesting thing is everyone is a bit sceptical about the returns that they have seen in the last three to six months and when you speak to a lot of other investors, then everyone is a bit sceptical. Even we are also a bit sceptical but the interesting thing is, whenever we think that we are a bit sceptical, we always end up finding some new interesting opportunities. So, broadly, the last three to six months, the entire rally in last one year is actually led by earnings growth.

Provident FIVE Reuters Cooper Landmark Strategy country US seeks six-month extension to science agreement with China
China so that it can undergo negotiations with Beijing to «amend and strengthen» the landmark deal, the State Department said on Wednesday. For over 40 years, the agreement between the two countries has yielded cooperation across a range of scientific and technical fields, a powerful sign that the rivals could set aside their disputes and work together. The deal, signed when Beijing and Washington established diplomatic ties in 1979 and renewed about every five years since, has resulted in cooperation in areas from atmospheric and agricultural science to basic research in physics and chemistry. But concerns about China's growing military prowess and theft of U.S. scientific and commercial achievements have prompted questions about whether the Science and Technology Agreement (STA), set to expire on Aug. 27, should continue. «This short-term six-month extension will keep the agreement in force while we seek authority to undertake negotiations to amend and strengthen the terms of the STA. It does not commit the United States to a longer-term extension,» a State Department spokesperson told Reuters.

FIVE JPMorgan Apple Tesla NVIDIA show Nvidia rallies as Wall Street anticipates pivotal report
Nvidia shares rallied almost 3% on Wednesday as traders bet the chip designer will deliver a strong outlook after the bell and boost the US stock market as it reaps the benefits of early investments in artificial intelligence. Nvidia's shares have more than tripled this year, with the chipmaker at the center of a Wall Street technology rally fueled by optimism about the potential of AI. Its stock market value of $1.16 trillion makes Nvidia the world's most valuable chipmaker by far, more than double the value of TSMC, the world's second most valuable chip company. Nvidia's shares briefly hit a record high in the previous session. «It's not often that the fate of the market rests in the hands of just one stock, but it very much feels like that is what's going on at the moment,» said JJ Kinahan, chief executive officer of IG North America. Retail investors made net purchases of $186 million in Nvidia shares over the past week, JPMorgan said in a report on Wednesday. Nvidia dominates the market for high-end processors designed for AI computing, and its stellar outlook in the previous quarter sent its shares soaring over 20% and ignited a rally in the S&P 500 technology sector, which surged 8% in the five sessions after its results. Options data showed the stock could swing nearly 11% by Friday, larger than the 8.6% average move in either direction seen a day after Nvidia's results over the last eight quarters. Nvidia is part of the so-called Magnificent Seven group of megacap stocks including Apple and Tesla that have powered the S&P 500's nearly 16% recovery this year. Bullish investors are betting a strong report and forecast from the company will revive a US stocks rally that has paused in recent weeks.

India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) are likely to revaluate duty cuts, non-tariff measures, safeguard and anti-dumping duties as part of the review of their existing free trade agreement. While the scope of the review of the Asean-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) would be decided at the leaders' meeting next month, sources said that the two sides have agreed on exclusion lists, origin rules and technical barriers to trade to be part of the review. New Delhi also sought an evaluation of the services agreement but the grouping is not on board for the same, people familiar with the matter said. The Asean-India Trade in Services Agreement was signed in November 2014 and contains provisions on transparency, domestic regulations, recognition, market access, national treatment and dispute settlement. «India has been asking for a review for more than five years. Asean has agreed for some provisions and there are concerns on others,» said an official. India has asked for a review of the agreement to eliminate barriers and misuse of the trade pact.
