President approves 76 gallantry awards for Armed Forces and CAPF Personnel on eve of Independence Day 2023
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday approved 76 Gallantry awards to Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel on the eve of Independence Day 2023. These include four Kirti Chakra (posthumous), 11 Shaurya Chakras (including five posthumous), two Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry), 52 Sena Medals (Gallantry), three Nao Sena Medal (Gallantry) and four Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry), the ministry of defence said.

HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda increased their marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR) across various tenors.Bank of Baroda The Bank of Baroda (BoB) raised its benchmark lending rates by 5 basis points (bps) for all tenures. Starting on August 12, 2023, the new rates will be in effect. This action was taken barely one day after the RBI indicated that the repo rate would remain unchanged. After the increase, the new MCLR rates for tenures of one year and overnight are 8% and 8.70%, respectively. For other tenures, the MCLR loan rate has remained constant.HDFC Bank HDFC Bank has increased the benchmark marginal cost of funds-based lending rates (MCLR) by up to 15 basis points on select tenures. The new rates are effective from August 7, 2023, according to the HDFC Bank website.

Another terror module busted by Punjab Police
Punjab Police on Monday busted another terror module with the arrest of five people who were allegedly planning to commit targeted killings in the state, officials said. chief election commissioner and election commissioners will have the power to consider even those not short-listed by the cabinet secretary-led Search Committee, according to a bill introduced in Parliament. According to Section 6 of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, a Search Committee headed by the cabinet secretary and comprising of two other members not below the rank of secretary, having knowledge and experience in matters relating to elections, shall prepare a panel of five persons for consideration of the Selection Committee for appointment as the CEC and ECs.

How to pay the penalty before filing a belated income tax return (ITR)
ITR for FY 2022-23 (AY 2023-24) is December 31, 2023. While filing a belated ITR, an individual is required to pay a penalty under Section 234F of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Further, losses under various income heads cannot be carried forward in a belated ITR except for house property losses. The penalty for filing a belated ITR is Rs 5,000 if net taxable income is more than Rs 5 lakh for FY 2022-23 (AY 2023-24). If net taxable income is below Rs 5 lakh, the penalty amount is Rs 1,000. If your net taxable income is below the basic exemption limit, you do not need to pay any penalty while filing a belated ITR.
