UPS FIVE Strategy Election country Maharashtra Elections: Devendra Fadnavis on BJP's narrative change after LS polls, CM's post, Maratha quota and more
BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is on a whirlwind campaign, addressing almost five rallies a day, in the run-up to the Maharashtra polls. Excerpts from an interview with ET’s Krishna Kumar & Jatin Takkar: On BJP’s narrative change after the LS polls: During the Lok Sabha polls, the opposition played up the narrative that reservations will go away, which pushed Dalits away. Secondly, adivasis were polarised against us. After the elections, we went to the people and even they realised that reservation will not go away. The entire fake narrative has been wiped out. Also, there was ‘vote Jihad’ against us as in several constituencies. Now, even if it happens, the impact would be limited. MVA has not realised that due to this voting pattern (of Muslims), there is a subtle feeling among people that if such things happen, then it is not good and pressure groups could be created. The Congress accepting their demands of the Ulema, especially the one where they have agreed to release rioters from 2012 to 2024, is dangerous and will backfire on them.

markets FIVE Ball security Experts cricket World record missed: Goa’s Kauthankar & Bakle miss Sangakkara-Jayawardene record due to a mistimed call
Snehal Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakle etched their names in Ranji Trophy history with a 606-run partnership for the third wicket against Arunachal Pradesh. However, their joy of setting a new Ranji record turned bittersweet when they realized they had narrowly missed breaking the all-time first-class cricket partnership record by just 19 runs. When Kauthankar and Bakle walked into the dressing room at the lunch break, they were informed they were only 18 runs away from surpassing Maharashtra's Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne’s Ranji Trophy record of 594 runs. On resumption, the duo quickly broke the record amidst loud cheers at the Academy ground in Porvorim. Kauthankar, who had already reached a triple century, was joined by Bakle, who also completed his maiden triple ton in just his second Ranji game. The Goa captain, Darshan Misal, declared the innings at 727-2, sealing the 606-run partnership. Only later did the team realise that they were just 19 runs shy of breaking the all-time first-class record of 624 runs, set by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene against South Africa in 2006.

markets FIVE Digital Experts PAM information reports Panel to revisit debate on including 'salary' in determining 'creamy layer' for OBC quota
Parliamentary committee meeting to resolve the issue of «discrimination» in determining the «creamy layer» for OBC reservation, the panel has scheduled another discussion for later this month, reported TOI. However, it has now emerged that the Parliamentary Committee on Welfare of OBCs had previously addressed the same issue in detail five years ago, ruling against including «salary» in the calculation of «income» for the purpose of reservations. Interestingly, the committee at that time was also chaired by its current head, BJP MP Ganesh Singh. Sources informed to TOI that the committee has summoned the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for a meeting on November 28, where the issue of factoring in «salary» for backward candidates from public sector undertakings (PSUs) qualifying for the UPSC exams will be discussed. During Wednesday's meeting, MPs including DMK's TR Baalu, Congress' Manickam Tagore, SP's Ramashankar Rajbhar, and a senior BJP member criticised what they described as a violation of the 1993 Office Memorandum (OM), which explicitly states that «income» should not include «salary» or «agricultural income.» The controversy centres around the government's practice of including «salary» for candidates whose parents work in PSUs, citing the lack of an «equivalence of posts» with government positions such as Group A, B, C, and D, noted a TOI report.
