Provident Immunic Flu Amid conjunctivitis, eye flu surge, doctors warn against irrational use of steroid eye drops
conjunctivitis and eye flu cases in the national capital, doctors have warned against the irrational use of steroid eye drops, saying it may bring temporary relief but can do more harm in the long run. Early detection and use of appropriate therapies are key to expeditious resolution of the disease and can help minimise potential harmful effects or transmission of untreated conjunctivitis, Dr J S Bhalla, a senior consultant eye surgeon at the DDU hospital said. Conjunctivitis in the present epidemic is a self-limiting disease and does not require antibiotic treatment in all cases, he said, adding that hand and facial hygiene are very important to prevent its spread. There is no approved treatment but topical corticosteroids may be helpful in a subgroup of patients with adenoviral conjunctivitis and may prevent scarring in severe cases. «It should be noted, however, that treatment guidelines suggest caution in the use of corticosteroids because they can potentially prolong infection,» Bhalla said. Dr J S Titiyal, chief of the RP Centre at AIIMS, said the condition is usually caused by viruses, which are highly contagious and spread quickly. He said the RP Centre found adenovirus to be the causative agent in all cases tested. Among these, nearly 20-30 per cent of cases have a positive bacterial culture as well, pointing towards superadded bacterial infection, Titiyal added.

UPS BLOCK Waters PINK cover Flu safe Spike in conjunctivitis cases causes alarm; here's how you can stay safe from 'pink-eyes' flu
Barbie’, but don’t ignore pink eyes!Conjunctivitis, also known as the ‘pink eye syndrome’, is a common yet painful ocular disease. It occurs due to the inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin membrane that covers the white part of the eye. The infection is contagious and can spread rapidly from one individual to the other. In a press release, Dr. TS Sujatha, General Ophthalmologist and Cataract Surgeon at Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital explained that high humidity during the rainy seasons generations growth of bacteria, leading to more conjunctivitis. “The prevailing high humidity during the rainy season fosters viral growth, creating favorable conditions for the spread of conjunctivitis. Areas with frequent water logging and regions where hygiene practices are not well-maintained, such as slum dwelling areas, are at higher risk for transmission. Children, their family members, and even healthcare workers have been significantly impacted, making up almost 30-40% of the affected group.” she explained in the statement.

UPS Citi Strategy Immunic SARS-CoV-2 Flu NOT You may not need a fourth Covid vaccine now but a flu shot
fourth shot of the Covid vaccine may be unwarranted. Instead, vaccination against flu might be a better idea, given the high number of cases in many cities, according to them. To be sure, a fourth Covid dose can protect against a recurrence, considering it has been a while since the second dose for most people and only 220 million took the third dose in India. Some studies have shown a fourth dose could help build up resistance as immunity against Covid would have fallen for most people. Health experts, however, don't see the need for a fourth dose, especially since India's Covid cases have come down to 23 cases in the last 24 hours. That's the lowest daily infection count since March 2020. «There is no need for another dose of Covid vaccine right now,» said Anurag Agrawal, former head of the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (Insacog), the laboratory consortium, and chair of the World Health Organisation's Technical Advisory Group on Virus Evolution.
