Is it the right time to invest in credit risk funds?
credit risk funds and liquid funds sit on opposite ends of the risk-return spectrum. Liquid funds are usually used for parking any idle surplus, with safety as a priority, even if it means compromising on returns. Credit risk funds are fancied by yield-hungry investors for the promise of a bigger pay-off.

DGCA audit finds Air India forged report of spot checks in 13 instances
Directorate General of Civil Aviation has found that Tata Sons-owned Air India made forged reports of spot checks that it did not actually carry out. The audit report, seen by ET, says the airline fabricated reports of 13 checks at three stations. “After cross verification with CCTV // footage//, it was understood that 13 spot checks shown to be carried out at Delhi, Mumbai and Goa were established to have not been carried out. However, reports were subsequently falsified when the DGCA asked for it,” the civil aviation regulator said in the audit report. Still, the reports were accepted by two top officials of the airline, the DGCA said.

We have valid reasons to be wary of BRICS expansion
the future of BRICS-Plus. The Johannesburg summit of BRICS leaders, which ended on 23 August 2023, agreed to induct six new members: the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia. Along with the existing five members—Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa—the expanded grouping of 11 members now presents an interesting alchemy of geo-political and geo-economic interests.

Circle rates in Delhi to be hiked by 35%? Work in progress to redraw proposal
Delhi government's plan to revise circle rates of residential and commercial areas in the capital is back on the drawing board, reported TOI. According to officials the previous plan prepared by the revenue department proposing the creation of sub-categories in A to H categories of residential areas with multiple slabs of circle rates was returned by the finance department with certain objections and suggestions. «We have decided to carefully study the suggestions and rework our proposal,» said a senior revenue department official. «Since there is a big gap in the existing circle rates and the market rate at which the sale and purchase of properties take place, we will propose a hike of up to 35%. But based on the feedback received from the stakeholders, we will also consider downgrading or upgrading the categories of certain colonies based on their location, facilities and existing market rates,» the official said. Circle rates, or minimum rates for valuation of land and immovable property in the national capital, were last hiked for residential areas in all existing categories in 2014.

Women’s tennis: A small step at the US Open 50 years ago was a giant leap
Women’s tennis was luckier. It had a King. It is 50 years since women’s tennis scored its first victory in pay equality. In 1973, the US Open became the first Grand Slam to announce equal prize money for men and women. In 1968, Billie Jean King had won the first Open era Wimbledon women’s title and received £750 for it while her ‘counterpart’ Rod Laver took home £2,000. In 1970, she and eight other US women players broke away from the US tennis tour over equal pay demand. They created Virginia Slims Invitational circuit. But things didn’t change. In 1972, the US Open men’s singles champion Ilie Nastase received $25,000. The women’s winner, King, got $10,000. The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) was launched in 1973 and King threatened to boycott the US Open until the pay was equalised. And it was!

New Delhi: The government is considering a proposal to include electric vehicles (EVs) in priority sector lending category, a senior official said on Saturday. «We have received a representation to include EV in priority sector. Digital will enable cross-border collaboration on tech innovation and R&D: Roshni Nadar Malhotra
Roshni Nadar Malhotra, chairperson of HCL technologies, said in the national capital on Saturday. Speaking at a B20 panel on technology, innovation and R&D, she said, “One of the issues with global technology and skilling is that innovation is very specific to countries,” adding that the challenge is taking solutions to scale. Nadar-Malhotra, who also co-chairs the B20 Taskforce on Digital Transformation, said the B20 Task Force on Technology, Innovation and R&D’s recommendation for such a digital platform aligns with that of her own task force’s focus on bridging the digital divide, addressing digital literacy and the skills gap, enterprise transformation of MSMEs with a digital toolkit, and fostering digital trust. Developing future skills will be key and has boded India well since it invested in R&D in information technology since the 1970s, she said. This attracted international companies to come and leverage its capabilities.

Khara noted that if Jan Dhan had been a pure vanilla account, people would not have shown so much interest in the scheme and it is the addition of services which has given it nuance. “Now it has gone beyond.

Jack Mintz: Trudeau leads a Charge of the Light Brigade
Alfred Lord Tennyson’s famous poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade, memorialized the bravery of British soldiers as they attacked Russian forces in the 1854 battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War. “Into the valley of Death rode the six hundred” tolls throughout the poem. Tragically, the soldiers’ courage was betrayed by a careless mistake: they were sent the wrong way. Either the command was poorly communicated, or it was misunderstood by the brigade’s leader. Whichever was the case, the six hundred needn’t have died, if only the right plan had been executed.
