Expert View | OPEC to extend supply curbs till 2H; Crude oil seen at $70-$90 in 2024: Kotak's Kaynat Chainwala
is working on a complex deal to be agreed on Sunday that will allow the group to extend some of its deep oil production cuts into 2025.Also Read: Built-in capacity to targets: Why OPEC+ members clash over oil production capacity—ExplainedThe group is currently cutting output by a total of 5.86 million barrels per day (bpd), equal to about 5.7 per cent of global demand. The cuts include 3.66 million bpd by OPEC+ members valid through to the end of 2024, and 2.2 million bpd of voluntary cuts by some members which expire at the end of June.Despite deep production cuts Brent crude prices are trading near their lowest this year at $81 per barrel, down from a peak of $91 in April, pressured by elevated stocks and concerns over the global demand growth. The Paris-based watchdog International Energy Agency (IEA) had lowered its forecast for 2024 oil demand growth, widening the gap with OPEC+ in terms of expectations for this year's global oil demand outlook.

At 5.6% of GDP, FY24 fiscal gap beats target
fiscal deficit at 5.6% of gross domestic product (GDP) in FY24, beating revised estimate of 5.8% on the back of improved resource mop-up and curtailed revenue expenditure, putting it on track to adhere to the glide path. In absolute terms, the FY24 fiscal deficit stood at ?16.54 lakh crore, down from the revised estimate of Rs 17.35 lakh crore and FY23 level of Rs 17.38 lakh crore, showed the official data released on Friday. A lower-than-anticipated deficit in FY24 and a generous surplus transfer by RBI earlier this month make the government's goal of reining in fiscal gap at 5.1% of GDP in FY25 seem more realistic now, experts said. Total Receipts Hit Rs 27.89 Lakh cr

Delhi water crisis: Atishi writes to Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat seeking urgent intervention
water crisis in the National Capital, Delhi Water Minister Atishi on Friday wrote a letter to Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Shekhawat seeking his urgent intervention in the matter. In her letter, Atishi said, «As you are aware, Delhi is heavily dependent on water from the Yamuna River to meet its day-to-day demand for water. However, in the last few days, there has been a drastic dip in the water levels at the Wazirabad Barrage as Haryana is not releasing the required amount of water in the Yamuna River. This has resulted in a massive crisis of water in the national capital. Moreover, the temperature in Delhi has touched almost 50 degrees. This has further intensified the demand for water putting an additional burden on the already strained demand-supply chain of potable drinking water in Delhi.» She also mentioned that if Haryana does not release adequate water, then plants in Delhi will not be able to function optimally.

Climate action: Clean energy needs an active carbon market
renewable power projects. Among others, Siemens Energy is looking to sell the wind-turbines unit of its local subsidiary, Shell is scouting for investors in Sprng Energy and Renew is in talks to hawk some of its solar assets. An over-supply of climate-friendly generators of electricity suggests that deals will be struck at weaker valuations than sellers would like, with saleability likely to hinge on project viability, market conditions and the risk-return profile.
