PM Modi to be chief guest at ET World Leaders Forum
Narendra Modi will be the chief guest at The Economic Times World Leaders Forum, which will take place on August 31 in New Delhi. Bringing together global investors, policy makers, business leaders and entrepreneurs from across the globe, the inaugural edition of ET World Leaders Forum, with its theme of 'Leadership for Global Prosperity,' offers a platform for intersectional dialogue on the opportunities that arise from India's rapid economic progress. That progress has come even as the global economy overall is stagnating, with geopolitical and climate crises adding to concerns. India's economy grew 8.2% in FY24, as the macroeconomic stability and policy support catalysed investments.

US will continue to monitor situation in Bangladesh, says White House
White House said, emphasising that President Joe Biden is «consistent in speaking loud and clear» on human rights issues. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was responding to questions regarding calls from Hindu-American groups and Indian-American lawmakers seeking the US government's intervention in protecting the lives and properties of the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. «We are certainly going to continue monitoring the situation. I don't have anything else to add beyond that. But, when it comes to any type of human rights issues, the president (Joe Biden) has been very consistent in speaking loud and clear in public and also privately and he'll continue to do that,» Jean-Pierre told reporters at her daily news conference on Monday. Over the past few days, hundreds of Hindu-Americans in various US cities have been holding peaceful protest rallies against the alleged human rights violations of the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh.

Trump's anger is getting out of control as his chances plummet in poll after poll
Kamala Harris surpassed Donald Trump in popularity and she took a lead in most of the opinion polls held since Joe Biden pulled out endorsing her last month, the advisers and top aides of the Republican candidates are upset with his public appearances, reports 'The Beast'. The Trump campaign team is getting increasingly anxious about his public meetings that are going from bad to worse. The aides who were very happy after Donald Trump emerged as a hero after the failed assassination attempt at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee are now upset. The main change in his behavior is his increasing anger perhaps due to the Democrats’ resurgence that came out first when he used derogatory words against Kamala Harris. He questioned the Black identity of the first black vice president of the US at a gathering of the National Association of Black Journalists. Don't fly kites near elevated metro lines for your safety: DMRC to Delhiites
Independence Day, the DMRC on Sunday advised people not to fly kites in the vicinity of elevated metro lines passing through residential areas for their safety and to prevent disruption of metro services. «As kite flying gathers pace around August 15, there is a likelihood of kite strings getting entangled in the OHE (overhead equipment) wires or getting stuck in the pantograph (which draws power from OHE) of a moving train if kites are flown in the area of elevated metro lines,» Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said in an advisory. «Such incidents have the potential to not only disrupt the metro services by damaging/tripping the OHE or pantograph but may also prove fatal to those flying kites with metallic maanjha,» he said. The DMRC has a robust mechanism in place to check and prevent any kind of disruptions and dedicated teams are deployed to swiftly remove any kite strings, he added.

Bangladesh Protests: Situation better along borders, no major incidents of violence, says BSF
Bangladesh borders, a top BSF official said that the condition is improving «rapidly» and «no major incidents» of violence have been reported so far. He said that at some places, build-up of locals was reported due to rumour mongering. The situation has been defused with cooperation from the Bangladesh Army, border guarding forces and local administration. India and Bangladesh share 4,096.7 km of border running through West Bengal (2,217 km), Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Assam (262 km) and Mizoram (318 km). On being asked about the deployment, the official said «reinforcements» were sent on the first day and additional troops were mobilised to augment BSF's presence in the area. BSF is also organising village coordination meetings to sanitise locals about the present situation in Bangladesh in the presence of prominent locals, sarpanch and pradhan to create a sense of security, the official clarified. BSF said late Wednesday night Bangladeshi nationals gathered near the borders in two sectors. «These gatherings were prompted by fears of attacks by protestors within Bangladesh. BSF personnel swiftly responded to these situations, ensuring the security of the border and the safety of the gathered Bangladeshi nationals.»
