rural demand driven by improved monsoon prospects along with a rise in urban demand is expected to encourage investments by the private sector that could accelerate overall economic growth. There are some lead indications already of new capacity creation in a few industries and a pick-up in investment intentions, said an assessment of the state of the economy by the Reserve Bank of India economists published in its latest monthly bulletin. Aggregate demand conditions are gathering momentum after some slack in the first quarter of 2024-25. The central bank has projected an economic growth of 7.2 percent in 2024-25. " Rural consumption spending on the back of growing incomes is beginning to drive volume growth in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), reflecting strengthening fundamentals." said a study by RBI deputy governor Michael Patra and his team published in the Bulletin. The views are those of the authors and not of the central bank.

RG Kar incident: 25 people held for vandalising property, police say
Kolkata Police in connection with the RG Kar vandalism incident, Police Commissioner Vineet Goyel said on Friday. He urged all citizens and all political parties to come up with information about the miscreants behind the vandalism. Goyel urged the media and the people to not pay heed to the rumour mongering which has been going on over the rape and murder of a PG medical student of the hospital and the vandalism incident. The Police Commissioner accepted that there was «failure of assessment» about the crowd size on the 'Reclaim the Night' which was meant to be peaceful. He said, «So many women and people had come from various parts of the city and it was difficult to assess the size of the crowd.» «If you call it a failure of assessment, yes it was. The entire protest was supposed to be peaceful. We are human beings. We also make assessments based on available resources. There was so much security in the location. ACP-I was also present,» he said. " During the 'Reclaim the Night' protest, there were gatherings and spontaneous crowds which had come, with no specific leaders. How many people will gather could not be assessed. We had to deploy our resources throughout the city while a fairly large contingent had assembled at the RG Kar hospital," the Commissioner said.

Ukraine's incursion into Russia flips the script on Putin
fleeing invading Ukrainian troops sought shelter from strangers. Russian parents feared that their children might be sent into battle for the first time. And in a televised crisis meeting Monday, President Vladimir Putin of Russia flipped through a white legal pad, reading aloud from handwritten notes, suggesting that his aides did not have the time to type up a speech for him as they usually do. Ukraine's surprise incursion into a sliver of Russia's Kursk region last week has not shifted the overall course of the war, but it has already struck a blow well beyond the few hundred square miles of Russia that Ukraine now controls: It has thrust a Russian government and society that had largely adapted to war into a new phase of improvisation and uncertainty.

RBI flags risks emerging from over-reliance on third party vendors
third party vendors by financial institutions. Speaking at a convention organised by the International Association of Deposit Insurers, RBI deputy Governor J Swaminathan called upon banks to exercise caution to guard them against potential vulnerabilities while working with third party vendors. He also called upon deposit insurers to tie insurance premiums to the level of risk posed by individual financial institutions. “The digital transformation in banking has also led to a multitude of distinct third-party entities getting involved in the provision of a single product or service, creating a complex web of technical and operational dependencies,” said J Swaminathan, DG, RBI. “The impact of failure in any link in this chain can often be catastrophic as was seen in a global IT services outage incident last month. Third parties could be points of intrusion for ransomware and other cyber threats.” Last month, C-edge Technologies a third party IT vendor jointly owned by Tata Consultancy Services and State Bank of India faced a
