JPMorgan executive alleges caste discrimination in Gandhinagar housing society, narrates 'nightmarish' incident
Anirudh Kejriwal, a vice president at JPMorgan Chase & Co, took to social media to narrate his experience of buying a flat in a society at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. He alleged caste discrimination, saying that the society is barring his entry due to his caste. He also alleged that he was threatened by a gathering of around 30 people who warned him against buying the flat. In a series of tweets, the JP Morgan executive, who works in GIFT City, said: «Shocked to face blatant caste discrimination in Sant Vihar 1 Society, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. My attempt to buy a flat turned into a nightmare as society's management is barring my entry due to caste. After paying a significant advance, planning was underway to finalize the sale deed. But the seller’s evasion on providing the NOC from the society was the first red flag. Little did I know, the real issue lay deeper.» «My concerns were confirmed when the society’s chairman and management openly stated their refusal to allow people from ‘other’ castes to move in. In the heart of Gujarat, this open discrimination left me in disbelief.»

View: India’s ‘no’ at WTO may just mean ‘not yet’
trade ministers gather at the World Trade Organization summit in Abu Dhabi this week, one of the villains will, as usual, be India. And, certainly, there’s some justice to the complaint that Indian negotiators are far too ready to block consensus at such confabs unless granted concessions on their own priorities. Saying “no” often comes too easily to them. But those priorities need to be viewed in the context of India’s fiendishly complicated domestic politics. This is a country the size of a continent, and achieving internal consensus on a drastic shift in policy is as hard — or harder — than getting agreement at the WTO. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the strongest, and most popular, leader India has had in decades. But he has always been particularly careful not to provoke widespread protests against his decisions. Although he hates to retract policies after investing political capital in them, he has twice in the past decade withdrawn legislation that enraged some of India’s farmers — a law early on in his tenure that would have made it easier to acquire agricultural land for industry, and a package of reforms in 2021 meant to liberalize India’s complicated farm subsidy system.

No foreign remittances licence, no Fema violation: Paytm to ED
Paytm Payments Bank has told the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that it does not possess the licence required for outward foreign remittances and hence the question of it violating Fema does not arise, people in the know told ET. The federal agency last week wrote to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to verify this claim, they said. The 'AD-II' licence issued by the RBI is mandatory for companies to make foreign remittances. ED is probing alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (Fema) by entities using Paytm Payments Bank.

Fadnavis trying to kill me, will march right away to his Mumbai home, says Jarange
Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange on Sunday said he would march to Mumbai and protest outside the residence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who he accused of trying to kill him. The announcement, made at the end of a speech of more than one hour in Antarwali Sarati in Jalna in which Jarange made several allegations against Fadnavis, took his supporters by surprise. Asked about Jarange's statements later, Fadnavis just said «I did not hear what he spoke». «Some people are being lured and pressured to make false allegations against me. Fadnavis is behind these conspiracies. He wants to kill me. I am ready to march to Sagar bungalow (Fadnavis' official residence in Mumbai's Malabar Hill) right away,» Jarange said.

Forex violation case: ED summons Niranjan Hiranandani, Dubai-based son on Monday
Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has summoned Niranjan Hiranandani, co-founder and managing director of real estate developer Hiranandani Group, and his son Darshan Hiranandani in a forex violation case. It asked them to appear at the agency’s south Mumbai office on Monday. Darshan Hiranandani was informed by email as he is a non-resident Indian (NRI) and lives in Dubai, people aware of the matter told ET. The agency has registered a case against the Hiranandanis and group entities under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (Fema), they said. On Thursday, the federal agency conducted searches at four sites linked to the realty firm in and around Mumbai, including Niranjan Hiranandani’s home as well as the registered and corporate offices of group entities. “There are certain transactions with which the duo need to be confronted and therefore they have been summoned on Monday,” said an official aware of the development. Ordinarily, while summoning a person for the first time in a case, the agency allows the option of being represented through legal counsel.
