PM Modi raises 'Jai Vigyan' slogan while on his way to ISRO office
Narendra Modi received a rousing welcome from BJP workers and the public as he landed in Bengaluru on Saturday to congratulate the scientists who worked on Chandrayaan-3. He addressed the crowd after he landed at HAL airport, saying «Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan (hail soldier, hail farmer, hail science, hail research)», before heading to meet the scientists at ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) office. «I was not in the country (at the time of the launch) but I decided the first thing I would do after getting back would be to visit our scientists,» he said. The PM flew in early in the morning from Greece after attending the 15th Brics summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. Local artists waiting for him at the HAL airport played the dhol and danced, waving the Tricolour. The BJP had asked its workers to wave the national flag instead of the party flag as they were celebrating ISRO's achievement, not the party's. The crowd was packed around HAL airport, with adults, old and children all equally excited to catch a glimpse of the PM as he came to felicitate the scientists of their home state.

Requested Karnataka Guv, CM, Dy CM not to take trouble of coming early to receive me: PM Modi
Bengaluru visit to meet ISRO scientists, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Friday alleged that he purportedly barred Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar from receiving him at the HAL Airport. Meanwhile, a war of words erupted between BJP MLA and former minister R Ashoka and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar over «ignoring» protocol to receive the Prime Minister at the airport. Modi flew down to Bengaluru around 6 AM directly from the Greek capital of Athens to interact with ISRO scientists involved in the Chandrayaan-3 mission to the Moon. Addressing a large number of people gathered outside the HAL airport, the PM said since he was coming from a far-off place (Athens) he did not know what time he would reach here, and he requested Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM Shivakumar not to take the trouble of coming to receive him as he would return soon after paying tributes to ISRO scientists. «So, I had requested them that when I pay a formal visit, they definitely follow protocol,» Modi said. «They cooperated and I am thankful and grateful to them,» he said. Ramesh alleged that the PM was irritated with Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for felicitating the ISRO scientists before him, and termed Modi barring the Chief Minister and his deputy as «petulant petty politics». Siddaramaiah on Thursday visited the Missions Operations Complex at ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) and felicitated ISRO chief S Somanath and his team on the successful touch down of Chandrayaan-3 mission's lander on the Lunar surface. «The government will officially honour them by organising a special programme at the Banquet hall at Vidhana Soudha.

L&T, HAL vetted to bid on India rocket privatisation
Hindustan Aeronautics are among companies vetted to potentially bid in India's efforts to privatise its small satellite launch rocket, a source told Reuters, as the government seeks more investment in the booming space market. The Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) was developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the national space agency, as a low-cost means to launch satellites weighing up to 500 kg (1,102 lb) into low-earth orbit. They serve a booming market to launch clusters of satellites for communications and data that SpaceX and rivals compete in. About 20 companies had submitted an expression of interest in bidding on the privatisation, the first of its kind under a policy drive by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to open launch and other space businesses to investment. India is aiming to increase its share of the global satellite launch market by fivefold within the next decade. The next step will be to open the bidding process itself, the person said, who had direct knowledge of the matter but asked not to be named because discussions are not public. The companies did not respond to a Reuters request for comment. Hindustan Aeronautics, also known as HAL, and Larsen & Toubro, an industrial conglomerate, already have a contract with the government to manufacture and deliver rockets to ISRO. Under that contract, the companies will manufacture and deliver five Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLV) — often called ISRO's «workhorse» rocket.

The Mk 1A version is a major improvement over the 40 Mk1 jets that were originally ordered by the air force, with modern avionics, Active Electronically Steered Radar, a new electronic warfare suite and a Beyond Visual Range missile capability. The order will place the total number of LCA jets-also called Tejas-in the Indian fighter fleet at 223, second only to the Russian origin Su 30MKI fighter jets.
