markets Death reports Department strain Headlines Till debt has done us part with kindness
Ganga. What was noteworthy was not the fact that unlike the more hapless victims sacrificed to the unfeeling river goddesses and gods each year, this quotidian event only made headlines because he was a senior bureaucrat. Instead, his death should bring to our attention how far the quality of money strains the value of life. Aditya Vardhan Singh, deputy director of UP health department, drowned because he was caught in the vice of a current. Three friends reportedly tried to coax divers to rescue him. They demanded ₹10k. Not having ready cash available, one of Singh's friends attempted a UPI transfer. But by the time this was completed, the struggling victim disappeared. In this instance, an unwillingness to extend aid resulted in the most extreme rejection of a debt obligation, doubly unfortunate because it also denies that we are all debtors and creditors simultaneously. Not just in the act of giving and receiving favours or promises from acquaintances and strangers, but also in the daily act of buying and selling goods and services to continue with life.

markets Election Healthcare President country 2020 Headlines This famous science magazine endorsed a U.S. presidential candidate for only the second time in its 179-year history; this is whom they have endorsed
Scientific American has only twice received presidential endorsements. After receiving a presidential endorsement, a prestigious science magazine, only the second in its 179-year history, has entered the political arena. On Monday, Scientific American announced its official endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris with the headline, ‘Vote for Kamala Harris to Support Science, Health, and the Environment.’ After supporting President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, Harris is Scientific American's second-ever presidential endorsement in the publication's history. The editors pushed a candidate who offers the country better prospects, relying on science, solid evidence, and the willingness to learn from experience, writing that the US faces two futures. In the other future, the new president puts public health and safety in jeopardy and rejects evidence, preferring instead absurd conspiracy theories. UPS Target trends show Headlines Inflation cools sharply to 2% in August, hitting Bank of Canada’s target
inflation cooled sharply to two per cent in August, according to Statistics Canada, marking a major milestone in the Bank of Canada’s efforts to tame price pressures. That’s half a percentage point lower than the 2.5 per cent annual rate recorded in July and continues a general cooling trend through 2024.The last time inflation was at or below two per cent was in early 2021.Statistics Canada pointed to cheaper prices on gasoline as driving down the headline inflation figure in August. Without the drop in gas prices, annual inflation would’ve been 2.2 per cent in August, StatCan said.Grocery prices rose 2.4 per cent annually in August, up from 2.1 per cent in July, mostly because of comparisons to sizeable price movements the same time last year.On a monthly basis, grocery prices were down 0.2 per cent from July to August, StatCan noted, thanks largely to seasonal drops in fresh vegetable costs.Another part of the basket seeing monthly prices drops last month was clothing and footwear, down 0.6 per cent.StatCan noted how rare this is — it’s the first time prices have fallen here in August since 1971 — given the month marks back-to-school shopping season.
