corporate earnings growth in 1HFY25, the Indian market is poised for a recovery in 3QFY25. The previous quarters have seen slower growth, primarily due to weakness in sectors like metals, oil & gas, and cement. However, we anticipate a positive shift in the upcoming quarter, driven by strong performances in key sectors such as BFSI, capital goods, technology, healthcare, and real estate. These sectors are expected to lead the recovery and drive earnings growth.

Experts bullish on 6 sectors for good returns amid stock market volatility
BSE Sensex was the eighth best-performing global index in 2023, but slipped to 13th rank in 2024. The analysis is based on 22 world equity benchmarks that cover the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia. The data is sourced from Reuters-Refinitiv. The weak performance of corporate India in the September quarter, geopolitical factors, elevated valuations, strengthening of the US dollar index and substantial FPI outflows (in October and November) led to a jump in volatility in the fourth quarter of 2024. As the markets enter 2025, the volatility is unlikely to abate soon due to high US bond yields and a stronger USD index. These factors will keep the US markets attractive and prevent FPIs from sustained buying in emerging markets (EMs), including India.

Bullish on 3 investment themes, but avoid overloading any segment in portfolio: Suranjana Borthakur
Suranjana Borthakur, Head — Distribution, Mirae Asset Investment Managers, says as a fund house, they are not very comfortable with too much sectoral play. They look at decadal themes and think the consumption theme is at a very sweet spot. The entire discretionary space is looking at a comeback, which is where they are positive on consumption as a theme. They are also positive on the banking financial theme as well as the healthcare theme. Every thematic segment may have a representation in the portfolio, but overloading any of the segments may not work well. Also, a 50% largecap and 50% in mid and smallcaps could be a good allocation to have in the long-term How should one read into the AMFI data? We are again seeing very healthy, record high SIP inflows. Suranjana Borthakur: It is very encouraging that in spite of market volatility, the SIP numbers have remained intact. In fact, they are reaching new highs of Rs 26,000 crore and above. It shows the confidence of the retail investor for a long-term wealth creation in India and despite the volatility, the conviction is very high.

India poised to be healthcare custodian of world, says Torrent's Samir Mehta
Indian pharmaceutical industry is aiming to more than double its size to USD 120-130 billion by 2030 as it looks to ride on the back of innovation to become the healthcare custodian of the world, Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) president and Torrent Group chairman Samir Mehta said. In the last 25 years, the Indian pharma industry has grown nearly 20 times — a market size of USD 58 billion from USD 3 billion in 1999-2000, contributing equally to domestic sales and exports today. The sector is among the top five contributors to India's trade surplus, which has grown to USD 19.5 billion from merely USD 1 billion in 1999-2000.
