'Hollyoaks': How to watch the epic soap opera for free?
Hollyoaks was not a 'one-hit wonder' when it was first aired in October 1995. It was here to stay and rule the British soap opera circuit, which it has successfully managed to do for almost three decades now. Channel 4 began airing the episodes since its inception and has been continuing to do so, and the response and craze around this soap opera never seems to die down among UK viewers.

View: Raise a glass to the job creators
Narendra Modi reiterated the need to encourage business and not demonise it. The PM's support is welcome. Post-Independence governments had a socialist mindset, leading to many perverse incentives and disincentives for India Inc. This narrative spread beyond political and bureaucratic circles to shapers of public opinion, mass media and popular culture. Expectedly, businesses and livelihood creators responded to these disincentives by gaming the system. The licence raj was less about business excellence or competition, and more about how to manipulate licences and create monopolies. In that era, black marketing, hoarding and smuggling were common. Low economic growth and insignificant job creation led to poor economic opportunities for the first post-1947 generation. They had to endure a 7-year wait for a scooter, and had to get permits for cement, steel and landline phones. The well-educated wanted their children and wards to get into top state jobs and the armed forces to escape this shortage economy.

Canada Study Permit: Justin Trudeau govt drops police clearance mandate for international students, temporary residents
Hindustan Times reported on Tuesday.Responding to queries in Parliament by Indo-Canadian MP Arpan Khanna, Immigration Minister Marc Miller clarified, “I have never said such certificates are required for temporary residents,’ the daily reported. The Canadian immigration minister indicated that verification is done mainly through biometric data, such as fingerprints, which are cross-checked on law enforcement databases internationally. As for the police certificates from the country of origin, the HT quoted Miller as saying, “We do not, as a routine matter, require them for temporary residents."However, police certificates from abroad may occasionally be requested on a case-by-case basis if further scrutiny is necessary.“They may be required if an officer decides to do so as part of a cascading security screening," he added later. The minister's clarification comes amid debates about security checks for temporary residents, including international students, following recent criminal cases involving past visitors. It is important to note that at least two of the four persons arrested in relation to the killing of pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar had reached Canada in that category.

Average air ticket prices spike 9 pc in Jan-March period: FCM Travel
air ticket prices in India spiked 9 per cent in the first quarter of 2024, primarily on account of general increase in travel demand and «much stronger» economic growth, according to Australian Securities Exchange-listed FCM Travel. At the same time, FCM Travel said there was a 20 per cent jump in the premium class bookings in the January-March period compared to the same period last year, driven by sectors such as manufacturing IT as well as conglomerates. «Domestic air capacity has increased more than 3 per cent but due to the demand in travel, we have seen average ticket prices increase by 9 per cent which is attributed to a much stronger economic growth and a general increase in demand for travel,» said Sunny Sodhi, Managing Director of FCM Travel India. Here's why Noida and Ghaziabad are facing water crisis
Noida and Ghaziabad are struggling to secure sufficient water supply. Many have turned to purchasing water from private tankers or rationing their usage, despite assurances from the Noida Authority that the city receives an adequate daily supply of 480 million liters per day (MLD), against a requirement of 407 MLD, a TOI report stated. While in Ghaziabad, the city faces a worsening water crisis, particularly during the summer, due to both a shortage of potable water and poor water quality. According to the civic body, there is a daily shortfall of 25 million liters per day (MLD). The city’s growing population has further strained its infrastructure. A 2019 NITI Aayog report warned that 21 Indian cities, including Ghaziabad, could exhaust their groundwater supplies within a few years, potentially impacting 100 million people.
