Situation horrific in Sandeshkhali, there is complete lawlessness: Suvendu
Sandeshkhali (WB), Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who arrived in Sandeshkhali in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Tuesday afternoon after getting permission from the Calcutta High Court, described the situation in the strife-torn area as «horrific» and a «clear example of anarchy». Adhikari, along with another BJP MLA Sankar Ghosh, spoke to the locals, including women, who narrated their «spine-chilling» experiences endured at the hands of local TMC leaders, including absconding Shahjahan Sheikh. The BJP leaders were welcomed by locals, including women, after they reached Sandeshkhali by crossing the Kalindi River on a boat from Dhamakhali. «The experiences narrated by the locals are spine-chilling. Their lands have been usurped, and women exploited… and everything happened with the help of the police and the administration. The situation is completely horrific and is a clear example of anarchy prevailing in the area,» he said.

Trinamool calls for resignation of women's commission chief Rekha Sharma, alleges bias
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Tuesday accused Rekha Sharma, the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), of prioritizing her political allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the safety of women and children and demanded her immediate resignation. In an official statement, the AITC claims that Sharma's favouritism towards the BJP, which comes from her past job as a BJP district secretary, harms the trustworthiness of her current role and makes her important position look foolish. «Rekha Sharma, transitioning from BJP district secretary to chairperson of NCW doesn't erase your political bias. How can we trust someone who puts party interests above the safety of women and children? Your allegiance to BJP renders your position utterly unfair and disgraceful. How dare you prioritise party loyalty over the safety of women? Your shameless partiality makes a mockery of the prestigious role. Resign now and spare us from your partisan incompetence!,» AITC said.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2024: History, significance and bank holiday list
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, celebrated on the 19th of February every year, commemorates the birth anniversary of one of India's greatest warriors and rulers, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Born in 1630 in the hill fort of Shivneri in Pune, Maharashtra, Shivaji Maharaj was the founder of the Maratha Empire, which played a crucial role in shaping the course of Indian history. This day holds immense significance not only in Maharashtra but across India, as Shivaji Maharaj's legacy continues to inspire generations with his valor, leadership, and commitment to justice. Shivaji Maharaj was born to Shahaji Bhosale, a Maratha general, and Jijabai, a devout Hindu mother who instilled in him the values of courage, righteousness, and love for his motherland from an early age. His upbringing amidst the turbulent political landscape of medieval India, marked by the oppressive rule of the Mughals, greatly influenced his vision for an independent Maratha kingdom. From a young age, Shivaji Maharaj displayed exceptional military prowess and leadership skills. He established an army of skilled soldiers known as the Marathas and employed innovative guerrilla tactics to challenge the dominant powers of the time. His strategic brilliance and ability to unite diverse communities under the banner of Hindavi Swarajya (self-rule for Hindus) enabled him to carve out a formidable empire in the Deccan region.

Imran Khan's party demands judicial probe into alleged rigging; No consensus yet on power-sharing formula
Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan's party on Sunday demanded a judicial probe into growing allegations of vote rigging even as two major political parties failed to reach a power-sharing formula to form a coalition government. Though independent candidates backed by Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party won the maximum number of seats in Parliament, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) — have announced that they will form a coalition government after the February 8 elections resulted in a hung Parliament. The post-poll alliance by the PML-N and the PPP could mean that PTI will not be able to form the next federal government, prompting Khan's party to allege that the two rival parties were trying to steal the people's mandate with the help of the powerful establishment.
