Lowe's Reuters Progressive Boeing GBP show Low Sterling hovers at three-month low ahead of Bank of England meet
Bank of England later this week, which is expected to yield a final rate rise in the current cycle. Sterling was last unchanged on the day against the dollar at $1.2382, just above Monday's session trough of $1.2371, its weakest since early June, and flat against the euro at 86.36 pence. The BoE meets on Thursday and money markets show traders widely expect to see one final quarter-point hike to 5.50%, but no realistic prospect of a rate cut until next summer.Inflation has fallen to 6.8% from a 41-year peak of 11.1% last October, but it is still the highest among major economies and progress in bringing it down has been far slower. Consumer inflation in the United States has fallen to 3.7% from last June's 9.1% rate, while in the euro zone, inflation is running at 5.3%, almost half last October's 10.7% reading. UK growth, meanwhile, is slowing more than most economists expected, after strikes in hospitals and schools and unusually wet weather weighed on output in July. Against that backdrop, a Reuters poll of economists last week showed a significant minority believe the BoE has room to raise rates at least once more this year after September. However, expectations for the BoE have softened in the past few weeks. Back in June, money markets showed traders believed UK rates could hit 6% by the middle of 2024, as the central bank was forced to keep tightening monetary policy to tackle inflation. «With the BoE market pricing now more reasonable, and sterling positioning still long, we think it will be harder for GBP to stage fresh rallies in the near term.

Lowe's Citizens Action Fighting show country Time Low India-Canada ties all time low: Delhi’s reaction awaited following Trudeau’s allegations
Trudeau on Tuesday stating in his country’s parliament that the security agencies were investigating a link between the “agents” Indian government and the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar earlier this year. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that a top Indian diplomat posted in the country has been expelled based on the “investigations” in what would be the first such action against an Indian diplomat posted in the West. The Indian government is expected to react strongly during the course of the day on these developments. «Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the Government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar,» Trudeau said while speaking at the House of Commons in Ottawa on Tuesday. "Canada has declared its deep concerns to the top intelligence security officials of the Indian government. Last week, at the G20, I brought them personally and directly to Prime Minister Modi in no uncertain terms," the Canadian Prime Minister said. Trudeau urged the Indian government to «cooperate with Canada to get to the bottom of this matter» and reiterate its position on «extra-judicial operations» in another country. «If proven true, this would be a great violation of our sovereignty and of the most basic rule of how countries deal with each other,» Joly said.

COST UPS Lowe's Action show Low banking system Liquidity in the banking system slips to 6-month low
Liquidity in the banking system has slipped into its deepest deficit in almost six months, inflating borrowing costs, as outflows due to corporate advance taxes and the Reserve Bank of India's likely actions to stabilise the rupee have drained lenders of funds. As of September 16, the RBI infused ₹68,785.94 crore into the banking system, the most since March 24, central bank data showed. An injection of funds by the RBI into the banking system indicates tight liquidity conditions. An ET report last week said advance tax collections in the first half of this fiscal year have increased 20% on-year to ₹3.54 trillion. «Advance taxes have gone out and GST is coming up, so there can be some tightness of liquidity. Having said that, in about 10 days or so, liquidity will be coming back into the system. In our view, the RBI would be happy with a liquidity range of say minus ₹50,000 crore to plus ₹50,000 crore from a broader perspective,» Indranil Pan, chief economist, Yes Bank, said. «While the advance tax outflows and the GST are relatively normal factors where the flows will come back into the system, the bigger concern from a structural liquidity perspective is the currency sale by the RBI,» Pan said.

Lowe's Reuters Cooper Fighting show country Low India-Canada ties hit a new low as trade minister Mary Ng postpones India trip
India and Canada have hit a new low as Canadian trade minister Mary Ng has 'postponed' a planned trade mission to Mumbai next month without giving any explanation. The move comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's not-so-happy trip to India for the G20 Summit this month that also involved an extended stay here due to a snag in his flight. Ng was to come to Mumbai on October 9 along with Canadian businesses for a five-day trip known as a 'Team Canada' trade mission to revive bilateral trade talks that are currently paused, review trade ties, and meet industry representatives. «At this time, we are postponing the upcoming trade mission to India,» a spokesperson for the minister said without giving a reason, as per a Reuters report. The relationship between Canada and India has been showing signs of strain in recent times with the Trudeau government taking limited steps to address India's concerns over anti-India activities in Canada. Last Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed India's concerns to Trudeau following the G20 Summit here. Officials here said extremist elements in Canada are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the Indian community in Canada and their places of worship. They said the nexus of such forces with organised crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should be a concern for Canada as well. Modi had told Trudeau that it is essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats.
