UPS Manufacturing June factory activity eases, but confidence up
Though lower than the previous month, June marked the second fastest pace of expansion in manufacturing activity in six months. The June PMI data pointed to an improvement in overall operating conditions for 24th straight month. A value of over 50 denotes expansion. “Positive client interest continued to support the manufacturing industry, driving the growth of output, employment, quantities of purchases and input stocks,” said Pollyanna De Lima, economics associate director, S&P Global Market Intelligence. De Lima said PMI results indicate strong domestic and international demand for Indian-made products.

Delhi High Court on Monday asked Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo to deposit 23% of $230 million towards «royalty» for alleged infringement of Nokia's three standard essential patents (SEPs) in cellular technology. The three SEPs are said to be necessary to make cellular systems 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G compliant. A division bench led by Justice Manmohan, while setting aside the single judge's November order that rejected Nokia's claim for royalty, said nearly two years have lapsed since Nokia filed the case and not a «single farthing» has been paid so far by Oppo.

NEW DELHI : Micron Technology, Inc.’s India plant is set to begin construction within four to six weeks, as the Gujarat government has allocated land for the semiconductor factory, said communications and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday. The facility in Sanand, Gujarat, will be producing the first ‘Make in India’ chip, and production is expected to start by December 2024, he added. Micron, the American semiconductor packaging firm, will invest $825 million in India to set up the assembly and testing facility, it’s first factory here.

S&P Global said on Monday that India’s purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for manufacturing fell to 57.8 in June, down from 58.7 in May. A figure of 50 separates expansion from contraction.
