Delhi records high of 41.7 deg C, mercury likely to reach 44 deg C on Saturday

The weather department issued a 'yellow' alert for Saturday as it predicted the mercury to reach a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 31 degrees Celsius. However, there was no prediction for a heat wave. The Met office has four colour-coded warnings — green (no action needed), yellow (watch and stay updated), orange (be prepared) and red (take action).

Mercury soars to 48.8 deg C in Rajasthan, five die of suspected heat stroke
Rajasthan continues to battle rising temperatures, five deaths due to suspected heat stroke were reported in the state on Thursday. The mercury soared to 48.8 degrees Celsius in Barmer, the highest temperature recorded this summer season, according to Met Centre Jaipur. Five peacocks were also found dead in Khairthal district, officials said. Barmer was followed by Phalodi with maximum temperature at 48.6 degrees degrees, Fatehpur at 47.6 degrees Celsius, Jaisalmer at 47.5 degrees Celsius, Jodhpur at 47.4 degrees Celsius, Jalore at 47.3 degrees Celsius, Kota at 47.2 degrees Celsius and Churu at 47 degrees Celsius, the Met Centre said.

Regional Meteorological Department of Rajasthan, in view of the searing and scalding heatwave has issued a red and orange alert for various districts. After the temperature breached the mark of 46 degrees Celsius, the Regional Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of daytime temperature crossing the mark of 48 degrees Celsius and above in various parts of Rajasthan. Speaking to ANI, Radhe Shyam Sharma, Director of the Regional Meteorological Center, Jaipur said, «There is no respite from the scorching heat, as temperatures have already crossed the mark of 46 degrees Celsius and now mercury is intended to rise beyond 48 degrees Celsius.»

At 43°C, Kolkata records highest temperature in 50 years
Kolkata sizzled at 43 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the highest temperature the city recorded in 50 years, the Met Department said. Extending a ray of hope that the severity will abate from Sunday, the Met Department forecast the possibility of rains owing to the possibility of moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal.
