Jairam Ramesh on Saturday criticised the Central government for delaying auctions of lithium reserves in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that companies were reluctant to bid due to insufficient exploration data. In a post on X, Jairam Ramesh noted that on February 13, 2023, the Modi government announced--amid much fanfare--the discovery of what it claimed to be one of the world's largest lithium reserves in J&K. «In November 2023, the first auctions were held, but the minimum requirement of three bids was not met, leading to the cancellation of the auction. A second round of auctions was announced in March 2024, but by July 2024, it was revealed that not a single bid had been received,» he said.

Mahayuti alliance's new government in Maharashtra will be formed on December 5 with Devendra Fadnavis emerging as the frontrunner to become the next chief minister again, a senior BJP leader said on Saturday. In the November 20 Maharashtra assembly polls, the Mahayuti alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) retained power, pocketing a whopping 230 of the 288 assembly seats. The BJP emerged as the single largest party, winning 132 seats, followed by Shiv Sena with 57 and NCP with 41 seats. However, even after the announcement of poll results a week ago (on November 23), the formation of the government has been delayed as the tripartite alliance is yet to decide on who will be the next chief minister.

Kim Jong Un told Russian defence minister Ukraine's use of long-range weapons is the result of direct military intervention by the United States and Moscow is entitled to take action in self-defence, state media said on Saturday. Kim met Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov on Friday and said «the U.S. and the West made Kyiv authorities attack Russia's territory with their own long-range strike weapons» and Russia should take action to make «hostile forces pay the price,» KCNA news agency said. Kim pledged to expand ties with Russia in all areas including military affairs under the comprehensive strategic partnership he signed with Russian President Vladimir Putin in June, which includes a mutual defence agreement, KCNA said.

Congress Working Committee met here on Friday and adopted a resolution alleging the integrity of the entire electoral process was being severely compromised against which the party would soon launch a movement. In the resolution of the top body of the Congress, the party said free and fair elections is a Constitutional mandate that was being called into «serious question by the partisan functioning of the Election Commission». Congress on Monday demanded that the Election Commission take action against IPS officer Rashmi Shukla for allegedly violating the model code of conduct during the Maharashtra assembly elections by meeting Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Congress's chief spokesperson, Atul Londhe, claimed Shukla met Fadnavis, the state home minister, when the model code of conduct was in place. The IPS officer reportedly met Fadnavis at his official residence on the evening of November 23, the day votes were counted. Earlier this month, the Election Commission had directed the Maharashtra government to transfer DGP Rashmi Shukla with immediate effect following complaints from political parties, including the Congress.
