India to be deep tech powerhouse and big part of Siemens' game plan
Siemens AG aims to more than double the share of software and digital services in sales to 20%, and India will play a key role in this strategy, chief executive officer Roland Busch told ET in an interview. The German conglomerate has become the world's largest industrial software company, pivoting from legacy industrials and manufacturing. «India was traditionally known for offshoring software and engineering products… the company is now looking at more of deep technology and development of core products,» Busch said. «We believe that the DNA of Siemens is technology, and this is where the value of Siemens sits.» This part of the business is relatively small but growing rapidly, the CEO said. «We are currently sitting on₹6.5 billion of software and digital business revenues out of a total ₹75 billion for the group. So there's still a way to go, but this part grows faster,» said Busch.

EV companies seek stability in incentives ahead of FAME-III rollout
government scheme to promote adoption of electric vehicles, sections of EV makers said this time they wanted a subsidy policy with a definite timeline, rather than one that would be abruptly cut off like the previous one. «New changes are too sudden, especially for the automobile industry with its long lead times. We would want the new subsidy regime to last for at least two to three years to truly benefit the industry,» Amitabh Saran, chief executive of electric three-wheeler maker Altigreen, told ET. The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme was originally launched in 2015 to encourage the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles. Under it, a subsidy was provided to EV makers who used it to lower the prices of their products. The second edition, FAME-II, was introduced in 2019 and went on till March 2024 when it was scrapped. There has since been a steep slowdown in EV sales, according to a report by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations.

Retail credit aplenty. But why is our spending growth soft?
₹50,000 remain high. In particular, NBFC-fintech lenders, which have the highest share in sanctioned and outstanding amounts, also have the second highest delinquency levels, only below that of small finance banks." Indeed, the sharp growth in bank lending to NBFCs from 2.5% of the GDP in 2016-17 to 5.2% in 2023-24, suggests the rise of fintech's lending money. Also, with loans easily available over a smartphone, there has been a drop in lending standards at the lower end of the market, leading to higher delinquencies.

Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea price hike may pinch a little, but that’s okay, Government says
The Government of India has decided not to intervene or prevent Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) from raising mobile tariffs, according to a report. Despite the price hike, mobile tariffs in India continue to remain among the lowest globally, prompting authorities to urge telcos to prioritise improving service quality, according to officials. They emphasised that the situation is “not critical.” “There is enough competition in the telecom sector, and the situation is not critical. Consumers may feel some pinch of the price rise, but the hike has happened after three years,” an anonymous government official was quoted by The Economic Times as saying.

Kuwait introduces new visa rules letting govt workers transfer to private sector jobs
visa rules allowing expatriates working in domestic sectors to transfer their visas to the private sector. This change, announced by the Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and Interior Sheikh Fahad Al Yousuf Al Sabah, aims to streamline labor mobility while adhering to the nation's legal framework. Starting July 14, domestic workers can transfer their visas under specific conditions, as reported by Gulf News. These conditions include obtaining approval from their current employer, having a minimum residency period of one year with the current employer, and paying a transfer fee of 50 dinars (approximately Dh600). Additionally, there is a charge of 10 dinars for each year of service with the current employer. The announcement follows a three-month amnesty period, which ended in June, that allowed expatriates residing unlawfully in Kuwait to regularize their status. Options included paying penalties, obtaining new residency, or leaving the country without fines.
