Indian companies to spend $45-50 billion in capex over 1-2 years, RIL to lead: Moody's
Moody's Ratings on Tuesday said rated Indian companies will spend USD 45-50 billion annually over the next 1-2 years towards capex as companies boost capacity, with the country's most valued firm Reliance Industries alone accounting for 30 per cent of the spendings. Investments to increase vertical integration and achieve net zero targets will also keep spending high, Moody's Ratings said in a report on corporates in India and Indonesia. «Rated Indian companies' capex will remain elevated at around USD 45-50 billion annually over the next one to two years. With an annual capex budget of around USD 15 billion spread across its different business segments, Reliance Industries alone will account for around 30 per cent of the portfolio capex,» Moody's Ratings said. Details on capital gains changes finally released, but Canada is still in bad shape
The Parliamentary Budget Officer released a report last week that estimated the federal government will raise $17.4 billion in extra tax revenues over the next five years as a result of the proposed capital gains inclusion rate increase to two-thirds from 50 per cent. The federal budget, however, estimated the increase would raise $19.3 billion over that time frame. That $1.9-billion difference, or 9.8 per cent, is material.

Estonia has a way Canada can implement better taxation policies to improve the economy and productivity
Despite an outlier report released by the International Monetary Fund earlier this month that suggested Canada will be a leader in economic growth next year — which had many Liberal MPs crowing that their “economic plans are working” — the overwhelming view of most suggests otherwise, especially when it comes to productivity.

It's time to stem the tide of successful people leaving Canada
There are many successful Canadians who are exploring or outright leaving this country. Reliable statistics are hard to come by, but tax practitioners such as myself have been kept very busy because economic and taxation policies matter, especially the messaging surrounding such policies.

This song is catchy and going viral. It’s also North Korean propaganda
SEOUL—Jordan Daniels, a 31-year-old pianist and software engineer in California, posted a cover of a catchy new tune on TikTok. One aspect of the ditty, “Friendly Father," made Daniels uneasy: It is propaganda from North Korea, the communist country led by brutal strongman Kim Jong Un. “He’s like this dictator," Daniels said.

Yes Bank stake not being evaluated by us, says First Abu Dhabi Bank
First Abu Dhabi Bank on Thursday clarified that it was not evaluating any possible offer for a stake in Indian private lender Yes Bank, as per news agency Reuters. The Middle Eastern lender was apparently among those evaluating a $5 billion stake in Yes Bank for around 51 per cent, news agency Bloomberg reported on Wednesday citing sources. The other suitors included Japan-based Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. Following this news, shares of Yes Bank jumped as much as 8.5 per cent. The stock has climbed around 25 per cent this year so far. State Bank of India has reduced its stake in Yes Bank, which it rescued four years ago from a crisis of bad loans. Despite the reduction, SBI remains the largest shareholder with a 24 per cent stake. The impending end of SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara’s tenure in August could potentially delay any deals involving Yes Bank. A government-appointed panel has recommended Challa Sreenivasulu Setty as his successor.

Greenko arm cancels dollar bond issue, to tap bank loans
Greenko Mauritius, a subsidiary of Greenko Energy Holdings, has decided not to proceed with its planned dollar bond issuance that had sought to refinance a $425-million bank loan. The company, which is into renewable energy sources, will now seek alternative bank borrowing instead, Fitch Ratings said, while withdrawing the 'BB' rating assigned to the proposed bond. Initially, the proposed notes, rated 'BB' by Fitch and 'Ba2' by Moody's, were expected to price a 3.5-year bond under 7%. However, earlier this year, Greenko Mauritius deferred the bond due to interest rate volatility. The $425-million bridge loan remains outstanding and is due by September 30, 2024.
