Schloss Schauenstein
Schloss Schauenstein isn't just a meal, it's a journey. Located in Furstenau, the 'smallest town' in the world, near the Italian-Swiss border, the castle is a 1.5-hr drive from Zurich. The 5-hr round trip may sound excessive for lunch, but, boy, is it worth it. Chef Andreas Caminada opened Schauenstein's restaurant in 2003, blending creativity with the region's bounty. Unlike traditional French tasting menus, Caminada's offerings are a multi-sensory delight. Local ingredients like red cabbage, pikeperch and langoustine are transformed into exquisite courses that are as imaginative as they are delicious. Each dish is accompanied by a collectable card detailing its preparation and wine pairing, adding storytelling to the experience.
