rupee closed slightly higher on Tuesday, supported by foreign banks' dollar sales and softness in the greenback, which is hovering close to 3-month lows. The rupee ended at 83.3325 against the U.S. dollar, compared with its previous close at 83.3675. Asian currencies also rose, led by the Korean won and Indonesian rupiah which were up nearly 0.8% and 0.4%, respectively. While equity-related inflows and a weaker dollar are marginally supportive for the rupee, the currency continues to lack any directional momentum, said Dilip Parmar, a foreign exchange research analyst at HDFC Securities. Equity inflows worth $1.5 billion are expected this week following MSCI's decision to increase India's weight in its Emerging Market index effective from Nov.

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have infused about Rs 12,400 crore into the Indian debt markets in November so far, making it the highest inflow in more than two years, on attractive yields offered by the country's debt. The inclusion of Indian G-Sec in the JP Morgan Government Bond Index Emerging Markets has spurred foreign fund participation in the Indian bond markets, market experts said. FPIs have been bullish on Indian debt since the beginning of 2023 and have invested throughout the year, except March, when they had pulled out Rs 2,505 crore, data with the depositories showed.

Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has demanded 21 more days to submit the report pertaining to the Gyanvapi Mosque Survey, reported Times Now on Tuesday. The original deadline for the scientific survey report was set for November 28, 2023. The Varanasi District Judge had granted the ASI a 10-day time to file its report. The Court had earlier asked it to submit its survey report by November 17.
