NEW DELHI : Bhashini, the government’s national language translation project, will release data on early adoption among private companies, as well as on the size of repositories on Indian languages collected and generated by the project in October this year, said Amitabh Nag, chief executive of Bhashini. “The internet does not have data repositories in languages such as Manipuri, which Bhashini is now building. It is still early days for the size of repositories in certain languages, but Bhashini will be making an announcement on the details of this by October this year," Nag told Mint . The executive affirmed that Bhashini now has data for text-to-text translations in 22 languages, while data for voice-to-text translations are available in 14 languages.

Nvidia and Reliance Industries, India’s largest company by market cap, will together build a foundational large language model (LLM) — an artificial intelligence algorithm —that will be trained on an array of diverse Indic languages used by the country’s 1.4 billion people, chief executive Jensen Huang announced on Friday. The $27.5-billion company, which is the world’s best-known maker of hardware and software for AI tools, also said it will partner with the salt-to-software conglomerate Tata Group to advance AI infrastructure in India.

Tata Communications Ltd will build an AI cloud for its clients. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services firm, will also use Nvidia’s AI computing infrastructure to develop generative AI applications for its clients. Jio Platforms said the partnership will seek “to develop India’s own foundational large language model (LLM) trained on diverse languages." Tata Communications will build an AI cloud, which it will offer to its clients in an infrastructure-as-a-service model.
