The Fed tracks the PCE price indexes for its 2% inflation target. Stocks had pushed higher initially after the PCE report but then faded. US stock market: S&P 500, Dow end higher as investors digest economic data ahead of inflation report
Investors were also watching developments in Washington to see whether U.S. lawmakers could avert a government shutdown. The recent move in Treasury yields to 16-year highs has loomed over the stock market, which has pulled back after the Federal Reserve last week signaled a hawkish long-term outlook for interest rates. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield pausing at around 4.6% was bringing «relief,» said Matt Stucky, senior portfolio manager at Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Co. «Markets in general the last few days have been really, really choppy,» Stucky said. «A little bit of a counter trend rally is to be expected after three or four pretty sharply negative days.» The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 116.07 points, or 0.35%, to 33,666.34, the S&P 500 gained 25.19 points, or 0.59%, to 4,299.70 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 108.43 points, or 0.83%, to 13,201.28. US stock market: S&P 500 ekes out slim gain as investors weigh elevated yields
Treasury yields and uncertainty about the path ahead for interest rates. Investors were also attuned to developments in Washington as divisions among U.S. lawmakers put the federal government at risk of a partial shutdown by the weekend. A possible shutdown has added to worries for stock investors as they grapple with benchmark Treasury yields that have climbed to 16-year highs after the Federal Reserve last week signaled a hawkish long-term path for interest rates. At the same time, as the S&P 500 has sharply pared its year-to-date gain, some investors are wondering if the market is close to a bottom. «At some point people will start to buy stocks for the fourth quarter, and the third-quarter selling might be almost done,» said Peter Tuz, president of Chase Investment Counsel. «At a certain level, people are going to get back in thinking the fourth quarter might be a pretty good one.» The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 68.61 points, or 0.2%, to 33,550.27, the S&P 500 gained 0.98 points, or 0.02%, at 4,274.51 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 29.24 points, or 0.22%, to 13,092.85. During the session, the S&P 500 rose as much as 0.4% and fell as much as 0.8% before paring losses. Among S&P 500 sectors, the rate-sensitive utilities group fell most, dropping 1.9%.

Wall Street posts gains as investors eye rate outlook
Wall Street's main indexes posted gains on Monday, with increases in Amazon.com shares and the energy sector, as Treasury yields rose further and investors looked to economic data and Federal Reserve policymakers' remarks later in the week for clarity on the path for interest rates. Investors are grappling with the rise in benchmark Treasury yields to 16-year highs after the Fed gave a hawkish longer-term rate outlook. The S&P 500 rebounded on Monday after last week it had its biggest weekly drop since March. There is a «tug of war between investors seemingly getting more concerned about 'higher for longer'… and bulls wondering maybe we have seen the correction and we can start to build from these levels higher,» said Chuck Carlson, chief executive officer at Horizon Investment Services. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 43.04 points, or 0.13%, to 34,006.88; the S&P 500 gained 17.38 points, or 0.40%, at 4,337.44; and the Nasdaq Composite added 59.51 points, or 0.45%, at 13,271.32. Among S&P 500 sectors, energy led the way, rising 1.3%, while materials gained 0.8%.

Azure Power plans to raise $700 million for expansion

SoftBank's Arm eyes up to $64.1 billion valuation in likely stellar Nasdaq debut
Nasdaq debut on Thursday, as shares of the chip designer were set to blow past their offer price. Its stock was indicated to open at $60 per American Depositary Share versus the initial public offering (IPO) price of $51. The company had secured a valuation of $54.5 billion on Wednesday after pricing its IPO at the top end of its marketed range. Arm was taken private seven years ago for $32 billion by SoftBank, which has been looking to cash out some of its stake since at least 2020, when it signed a $40 billion deal with chipmaker Nvidia for Arm. The plans, however, were abandoned less than two years later due to regulatory roadblocks. Since then it has pivoted towards an IPO, though that also came with its own hurdles, including run-ins with the British government that was campaigning for a London listing for the chip designer. Arm's return as a public company represents a climb-down from the $64 billion it was valued at last month when the Japanese investment giant acquired the 25% stake it did not directly own from its Vision Fund unit. The IPO fetched $4.87 billion for SoftBank, which still holds a 90.6% stake in Arm, according to a regulatory filing.
