COST Provident Manufacturing economy WhatsApp Opinion EV subsidies no longer needed, says Transport minister Nitin Gadkari
Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said there is no need to provide subsidies to electric vehicle makers as cost of production has come down and consumers are now opting for electric vehicles (EVs) or CNG vehicles on their own. Speaking at an event, Gadkari said initially costs of manufacturing electric vehicles were high, but as demand has increased, production costs have dropped, making further subsidies unnecessary. «Consumers are now choosing electric and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles on their own and I do not think we need to provide much subsidy for electric vehicles,» the minister said, pointing out the lower rate of GST on electric vehicles (5%) compared to petrol and diesel vehicles (28%). «In my opinion, manufacturing of electric vehicles no longer needs to be subsidised by the government,» he said, adding the demand for subsidies isn't justified anymore.

UPS Target Opinion reports recommendations Coal India shares fall 4% in 2 days on August volume dip. What brokerages say
Coal India (CIL) fell by 4% to a low of Rs 500.70 on the BSE on Wednesday after the company posted sales volumes of 52.1mt on Monday, down 12% YoY. Domestic brokerages like Nuvama and JM Financial are still optimistic about the stock because a few dips do not change the future. CIL reported sales volumes of 52.1mt in August 2024, down 12% YoY, owing to a weak power demand amid heavy rainfall. However, volumes clocked a decline of 5.7% YoY during Jul-Aug '24 negating the impact of only monsoon for the decrease, implying that CIL’s volume was under pressure owing to weak demand.

COST Digital Opinion Interface information View: India needs more lending — but not to everyone
digital transactions are fairly seamless. Now, the Reserve Bank of India wants to expand the country’s unified payments interface, or UPI, to lending: The central bank’s governor has repeatedly promised that a “unified lending interface” will soon be rolled out. That carries great potential — and not a little risk. India’s model for financial interconnectedness is based around what it calls “digital public infrastructure.” The idea is simple: The government, or a closely regulated quasi-public entity, invests in, manages, and pays for the system through which digital transactions take place. Businesses can create apps that use this infrastructure; interoperability is built in, so those apps must compete on cost and quality rather than on the size of their network. Consumers can decide how much of their information they are willing to share with specific apps or for specific transactions, and theoretically the seller’s access to private data is neither permanent nor very deep. The Indian IT whizzes who designed the system insist it avoids the worst of the US model (which is fragmented, insecure, and expensive), European systems (which are overregulated, lecture to business, and stifle innovation) and the Chinese network (which does not privilege privacy or allow for accountability to civil society).

Fighting Election WhatsApp Opinion information Haryana Assembly Polls: Congress, AAP explore alliance options
Congress is exploring the possibility of an alliance with AAP in poll-bound Haryana. The INDIA bloc partners had stated earlier that their electoral understanding was restricted to the Lok Sabha polls, when Congress contested nine out of 10 seats in the state and AAP one. However, there has been a growing realisation that if the two parties were to fight the assembly elections separately it could mean fragmentation of anti-BJP votes. According to people privy to talks, AAP has sought 10 out of 90 assembly seats but Congress is willing to part with seven. Two rounds of talks have taken place between AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chaddha and Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, they said, adding another round of talks will take place soon.

Harris had a 52 per cent to 46 per cent advantage over Trump among likely voters. The results are comparable and statistically unchanged from an August poll, according to pollsters. Before the convention, an ABC News, Washington Post, and Ipsos poll found that among registered voters, Harris had 49% support and Trump had 45%. Starting on August 23, the day following the convention's last night, a poll was conducted. Pollsters noted that Harris widened the gender gap, even though most of the numbers were essentially unchanged from before the Democratic convention. Regarding women, Harris had a 13-point advantage (54% versus 41%), while Trump had a 5-point advantage (51% versus 46%).
