Election Commission of India announced on Tuesday. All 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra will vote in a single phase like in 2019. BJP's central election committee held a meeting on Tuesday where it discussed potential candidates for about 60 seats in Jharkhand, starting with 28 seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes, according to people familiar with the matter. Cipla and Alkem Laboratories have emerged as the frontrunners to acquire a controlling stake in Sahajanand Medical Technologies (SMT), India’s largest cardiac stent maker, said people in the know. This follows the withdrawal of rival private equity contenders KKR, TPG Capital and Apax Partners after showing initial interest. The deal is expected to value SMT at Rs 3,500-4,000 crore, and binding offers are due by next week, the people said. Promoters of SMT—the Kotadia family— plan to keep a minority stake after the transaction that would see other shareholders also divest their holdings. “They could retain about 15-20% stake post the deal,” said one of the persons cited above.

Nitin Gadkari, on Tuesday, chaired a review meeting with representatives of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) to discuss the readiness of the automobile industry for ethanol and flex fuels. Delhi water supply cut: Residents in parts of Delhi’s Outer North district will face an 18-hour water supply disruption starting from 10 am on Wednesday, due to maintenance work, as announced by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), according to a PTI report.

Supreme Court has sought a response from the government and the Central Board of Direct Taxes on vaccine maker Serum Institute of India's appeal challenging a 2015 amendment to the Income Tax Act that made subsidy, grant, waivers, concessions or reimbursements by Centre or states or incentives in cash or kind taxable. The amendment had inserted sub-clause (xviii) to Section 2(24), which defines taxable “income”. A Bench led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud on Monday issued notice to the government and asked it respond in four weeks.

Six new people have sued music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, claiming sexual assault, rape, and sexual abuse. The first accusers of 120 alleged victims to file civil lawsuits against Combs, 54, were two Jane Does and four John Does, who filed the lawsuits in New York on Monday. Kuki Inpi Jiribam, Tamenglong & Noney (KIJTN) has sought withdrawal of Manipur State Police from Mongbung and Sejang Villages. KIJTN stated it is compelled to issue a notification expressing its displeasure against the policy of the Jiribam/State Police Department regarding the encirclement of Mongbung and Sejang Villages. The State police created havoc in these two villages by ransacking food provisions on the 10th of July this year, and three days later, Manipur Police Commandos, along with CRPF personnel, attacked the villages, leading to the loss of a CRPF jawan. Delhi court has refused to cancel a lookout circular (LOC) against real estate company ATS Infrastructure Limited's promotor Geetamber Anand and his wife Poonam Anand in connection with multiple FIRs lodged against the builder. The FIRs include those lodged by the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police for allegedly defrauding homebuyers, and another a money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate. Judicial Magistrate Yashdeep Chahal, in an order passed on September 13, said the accused had appeared to join the investigation as and when required, however, «the LOC appeared to be a safeguard to ensure that judicial process is not frustrated in any manner». «Even if the applicants are directed to obtain prior permission of the court before travelling abroad, the accused could always travel without obtaining any such permission and there would be no way for the court to enforce a condition of that nature,» he said.

Most importantly, the UN experts called on “social media companies to take all relevant steps to prevent their platforms from disseminating hate speech and misinformation regarding the Indigenous Jumma Peoples.”
