Rajya Sabha confirms imposition of President's rule in Manipur
Rajya Sabha early Friday adopted a Statutory Resolution confirming the imposition of President's Rule in strife-torn Manipur with members across party lines supporting the decision. Even though opposition members slammed the Centre for its failure to restore law and order in the state and control violence, the government said it was making all efforts to bring normalcy in the state, asserting that its policy was not to impose President's Rule in states. Speaking at the end of the discussion on the resolution, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said a meeting between the two communities from Manipur is likely to take place in the national capital soon. Shah informed the House that two meetings between the communities had already taken place in Manipur while the House was in session. "...We are investing our efforts to bring peace back in Manipur. Thirteen meetings have happened. We brought up the subject late as meetings were going on. The next meeting is in the offing and the issue will see its resolution soon," the minister said. «The path to communication is open… We don't use this for political mileage,» Shah added.

Breather between breathtaking and breathfulness
Between the conception And the creation Between the emotion And the response Falls the Shadow — The Hollow Men, TS Eliot “I think of my works as meditation, [samadhi],” says Trishla Jain. And it shows. Looking at her canvases, you realise two processes are at work — one, the very essence of the creative process that takes form in her paintings is on display; two, this process is reversed by an active act of immersion for the viewer who now becomes part of the creative process. In other words, we are in the Shadow zone — the breather — between conception and creation, between emotion and its response.

US approves $5.58 bn F-16 fighter jet sale to Philippines
The State Department said it was green-lighting a sale that includes 20 F-16 jets and related equipment to the Philippines, a treaty-bound ally of the United States. The sale would «improve the security of a strategic partner that continues to be an important force for political stability, peace and economic progress in Southeast Asia,» a State Department statement said. It would also boost «the Philippine Air Force's ability to conduct maritime domain awareness» and «enhance its suppression of enemy air defenses,» the statement said. The news follows months of escalating confrontations between the Philippines and China in the South China Sea, which Beijing claims almost in its entirety despite an international ruling that its assertion has no merit.

Trump says 'very angry, pissed off' with Putin
Trump said Sunday he was «very angry, pissed off» with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, NBC reported, marking a sharp change of tone as Washington seeks to end the war in Ukraine. NBC's Kristen Welker said Trump had called her to express his anger over Putin questioning Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's future as a leader — something that Trump himself has done. Welker, on her NBC show «Meet The Press» on Sunday, quoted directly from an early-morning telephone conversation with the president. Trump said that «if Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia's fault» then he would impose «secondary tariffs on all oil coming out of Russia.» Welker said Trump told her «I was very angry, pissed off» when Putin started making comments about Zelensky's credibility and talking about new leadership in Ukraine.

Naxalism got encouragement for decades due to Congress' policies: PM Modi
Naxalism got encouragement for decades in Chhattisgarh and other states due to policies of Congress. Addressing a public meeting in Mohbhattha village in Bilaspur district, Modi said the situation is rapidly changing and a new era of peace is setting in Naxal-affected areas. «Over the decades, Naxalism got encouragement in many states including Chhattisgarh due to policies of Congress. Whichever region lagged in development, Naxalism flourished there, but what did the party that ran the government for 60 years do? It declared such districts as backward and turned away from its responsibility,» he said. He said many mothers lost their beloved sons and many sisters lost their brothers (in Maoist violence). «The indifference of erstwhile governments was like adding fuel to the fire. You (Chhattisgarh) have also suffered it (the Naxal menace). The (previous) Congress government never took care of amenities of poor tribals,» Modi said and listed the Centre's initiatives like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which gives free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh… The PM said under the double-engine government, the situation in Chhattisgarh has been rapidly changing.

Pentagon chief Hegseth says 'warrior' Japan indispensable to deter China
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Sunday that Japan was indispensable in tackling Chinese aggression by helping Washington establish a «credible» deterrence in the region, including across the Taiwan Strait. «We share a warrior ethos that defines our forces,» Hegseth told Japanese Defence Minister Gen Nakatani at a meeting in Tokyo. Calling Japan a «cornerstone of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific», the Pentagon indicated that suggested President Donald Trump's government would, like past administrations, continue to work closely with its key Asian ally. Japan hosts around 50,000 U.S. military personnel, squadrons of fighter squadrons and Washington's only forward deployed aircraft carrier strike group along a 3,000-km (1,900-mile) archipelago that helps hem in Chinese military power. Hegseth's praise of Japan contrasts with the criticism he levelled at European allies in February, telling them they should not assume the U.S. presence there would last forever.

Rahul Gandhi criticises PM Modi for not visiting Manipur amid crisis
Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur, despite the state witnessing prolonged violence and now being under President's Rule. Taking to X, Gandhi said, «Yesterday, I met with Congress leaders from different communities of Manipur in Parliament. It's deeply concerning that after nearly two years of violence and now President's Rule, PM Modi has still not visited the state.» Highlighting the need for peace and stability, he added, «The people of Manipur deserve peace and stability. Every Indian stands united in wanting a lasting solution to this crisis. Resolving this conflict must be our national priority.» The situation in Manipur is disturbing, with violent clashes between Meitei and Kuki communities. Manipur has been under the President's rule since February after the resignation of chief minister N Biren Singh, as announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The state has been grappling with ethnic violence since May 2023. Meanwhile, Gandhi also opposed the central government's decision to permit offshore mining along the coasts of Kerala, Gujarat, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, calling it a move that threatens marine ecosystems and the livelihoods of coastal communities.

BJP's Muraleedharan urges Kerala govt to enforce new law to curb illegal migration
BJP leader V Muraleedharan on Saturday called on the Kerala government to strictly enforce the newly passed legislation aimed at curbing the influx of illegal migrants in the state. Addressing reporters here, he said a large number of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh are arriving in Kerala under the guise of guest workers, and stressed that the law should be implemented in the state without fail. The Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025 was passed by the Lok Sabha on Thursday, with Home Minister Amit Shah asserting that those who come to India for business, education and investment are welcome, but those who pose a threat to security will face stringent action. Muraleedharan also claimed that these illegal immigrants, posing as guest workers, are involved in the spread of narcotics in the state. «So, it is essential to implement the new law for the peaceful life and safety of ordinary people here,» he said. Criticising the Congress-led UDF over the matter, the former union minister alleged that the opposition front's approach in this regard is «disappointing».

Putin suggests temporary administration for Ukraine to end war
Putin's comments, during a visit to the northern port of Murmansk, come amid U.S. attempts to forge a settlement to the conflict by re-establishing links with Russia and engaging with both Moscow and Kyiv, in separate talks. The Kremlin leader has been accused by Ukraine and European leaders of trying to prolong ceasefire talks without any serious intent of stopping fighting. Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has left hundreds of thousands of dead and injured, displaced millions of people, reduced towns to rubble and triggered the sharpest confrontation for decades between Moscow and the West. Putin's suggestion of a temporary administration appeared to address his long-held complaint that Ukraine's authorities are not a legitimate negotiating partner as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has stayed in power beyond the May 2024 end of his mandate.
