Samsung Electronics' main South Korea union to strike over pay from Thursday
Samsung Electronics' biggest workers' union in South Korea said on Tuesday it would begin a four-day strike from Thursday to pressure the company over higher wages and bonuses after talks with management fell through in July. Lee Hyun-kuk, vice president of the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU), said in a live YouTube broadcast: «This strike is strategically designed to damage the company.» He said the union, whose 36,500 members make up about 30% of Samsung Electronics' South Korean workforce, expects the company would not have enough backup office workers to support production lines during the planned strike, as many workers would be away for a national holiday on Thursday.

Memorial to war dead or reminder of dark past: Tokyo shrine divides Japan
TOKYO—Eight decades ago, when Japan’s kamikaze pilots were crashing their planes into American ships and its soldiers were dying from the Aleutian Islands to Guadalcanal, all were given the same promise: Upon death, their souls would be enshrined at Tokyo’s Yasukuni Shrine. The shrine was the symbol of the religious-military state that sought to mobilize the population to fight in the name of a divine emperor.

India can organise Olympics 2036: French President Emmanuel Macron
India looks forward to bidding for the Olympics 2036, French President Emmanuel Macron said that India has the «capacity» to organise such events. Speaking to Jio Cinema, Macron said he believes in India's future. He added that the Olympics is fierce competition. «First of all, I am a strong believer in your country and the future of your country. And what you can build and your capacity to organise such events. I think this is a fierce competition. You should not underestimate that fact. I remember that seven years ago when we went to Lausanne, we did compete with the US at that time — Los Angeles. And we found this agreement at the end, it was, it is still a great cooperation. So, competing, by itself, is clearly a great preparation,» Macron said.

US will continue to monitor situation in Bangladesh, says White House
White House said, emphasising that President Joe Biden is «consistent in speaking loud and clear» on human rights issues. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was responding to questions regarding calls from Hindu-American groups and Indian-American lawmakers seeking the US government's intervention in protecting the lives and properties of the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. «We are certainly going to continue monitoring the situation. I don't have anything else to add beyond that. But, when it comes to any type of human rights issues, the president (Joe Biden) has been very consistent in speaking loud and clear in public and also privately and he'll continue to do that,» Jean-Pierre told reporters at her daily news conference on Monday. Over the past few days, hundreds of Hindu-Americans in various US cities have been holding peaceful protest rallies against the alleged human rights violations of the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh.

Trump's anger is getting out of control as his chances plummet in poll after poll
Kamala Harris surpassed Donald Trump in popularity and she took a lead in most of the opinion polls held since Joe Biden pulled out endorsing her last month, the advisers and top aides of the Republican candidates are upset with his public appearances, reports 'The Beast'. The Trump campaign team is getting increasingly anxious about his public meetings that are going from bad to worse. The aides who were very happy after Donald Trump emerged as a hero after the failed assassination attempt at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee are now upset. The main change in his behavior is his increasing anger perhaps due to the Democrats’ resurgence that came out first when he used derogatory words against Kamala Harris. He questioned the Black identity of the first black vice president of the US at a gathering of the National Association of Black Journalists. US Presidential Election 2024 is only a few weeks away, the political tension is escalating by leaps and bounds, US President Joe Biden has come under scathing attacks for the most unexpected reasons. He was caught taking forty winks under the sun at Delaware Beach. The Republican Party lost no time in attacking him and accusing him of dereliction of duty. They went to the extent of saying that Biden has spent 40% of his entire presidency on vacation. The RNC Research took to social media platform X and wrote in a post, «Biden- who held just one public event this week- is currently lounging on the beach in Delaware. He has spent 40% of his entire presidency on vacation. Who is running the country?» This triggered reactions among the netizens who came out on the social media platforms in a large number, most of them slammed or ridiculed the 81-year-old president. A user called Collins Opara wrote, «This is a joke! Biden has spent 40% of his presidency on vacation while the country falls apart. Inflation, crime, border crisis — who cares? He's too busy relaxing on the beach. Unbelievable dereliction of duty. Incompetent leadership. America deserves so much better than this.»

PMAY Urban 2.0 fund boost set to accelerate affordable housing
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban 2.0 plan over the next five years is expected to boost the affordable housing segment, allowing those migrating to cities for a livelihood to secure reasonable accommodation. PMAY-U is among the major flagship programmes being implemented by the government to provide all-weather pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries in the urban areas. Under PMAY-U, more than 11.8 million homes have been sanctioned while nearly 9 million houses have already been constructed and delivered to the beneficiaries. “The nature of the housing scheme has changed in its new avatar. Government is using a wider mix of schemes ranging from interest subsidy to credit guarantee. While the quantum of interest subsidy per beneficiary has been scaled down, the government’s capital support will help a larger base of needy population. The government intends to do both — enhance its capital productivity and accelerate the ‘Housing for All’ timelines,” said Vivek Rathi, National Director Research, Knight Frank India.
