From classroom to nationwide call: Rethinking 'boys will be boys' after Kolkata incident
sexual violence in Kolkata has sparked a nationwide debate about raising boys with a healthy respect for women to prevent future crimes. Experts emphasised the need for societal change, starting with education and parenting. The commonly heard phrase “boys will be boys” is criticised for perpetuating gender inequality and excusing inappropriate behavior. Reflecting this ingrained mindset, an incident from a Class 7 classroom was mentioned in The Times of India report by Neha Bhayana. During a 15-items activity, a boy expressed disgust upon the mention of “bra” as a clothing item. Srividya Sivakumar, the English teacher, used this moment to highlight that a bra is just a garment and should not be associated with secrecy or shame. Later conversations revealed the students were aware of the Kolkata rape-murder incident involving a young trainee doctor. Given the recent wave of sexual violence, there is growing support for the slogan “sirf beti mat bachao, bete ko sikhao” (don’t just save your daughters, teach your sons). This motto underlines the importance of raising boys correctly to prevent future crimes.

Novak Djokovic's US Open defeat sparks questions over legend's future
Novak Djokovic slumped to his earliest exit at the US Open in 18 years on Friday as a four-set, third round defeat to Alexei Popyrin sparked more questions over his long term future in the sport. The 37-year-old Djokovic, a four-time champion in New York, lost 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to the 28th-ranked Australian, leaving him frustratingly short once again of winning a record 25th Grand Slam title. His defeat, which saw him hit an uncharacteristic 14 double faults and commit 49 unforced errors, means that for the first time since 2017 he will end the season without a Grand Slam title.

Over 300K Samsung stoves in Canada recalled over fire hazard
Health Canada issued the recall on Thursday for several models of Samsung’s electric slide-in ranges because the front-mounted knobs can “accidently activate” through contact by people and pets and pose a fire hazard.Approximately 326,250 units of the affected ranges were sold from 2013 to August 2024 across the country.Samsung Electronic Canada said it is providing customers with a set of free knob locks or covers, depending on their model, to prevent “accidental activations.”Customers can continue using their recalled stoves while they wait to receive the free set compatible with their model, but should take some safety precautions, the company said.Health Canada is advising customers who are using the recalled ranges without knob locks or covers to make sure that children and pets are kept away from the knobs, to not leave objects on the range when not in use and to turn the knobs off after cooking before leaving home or going to sleep. Those who have Wi-Fi enabled ranges can turn on the “Cooktop On” notification on the Samsung SmartThings app to receive alerts when a cooktop burner is turned on, the agency said.As of Wednesday, 57 incidents and seven injuries have been reported to Samsung related to the affected products.Customers who have the recalled stoves can go to Samsung Canada’s website to request a free knob kit.

Will Trump challenge U.S election results if he loses? Things may be difficult this time
Donald Trump, would not accept the outcome if he is defeated in the 2024 election. He's been outspoken about the Democrats' decision to replace Joe Biden with Kamala Harris, referring to it as a «coup» and suggesting that the results are already predetermined. Though rare, Trump and his allies still insist that voting by non-citizens is commonplace. In addition, he said that he would only accept the election results if he thought that «everything's honest,» implying that he was prepared to contest the results if he had second thoughts, as per the reports of MSN. It's possible that the winner of the Trump-Harris race won't be clear by November 6, the day after the election. Issues may also arise during the weeks before Congress counts the Electoral College votes on January 6. Trump's campaign co-manager hinted at a possible legal and political battle following the election, emphasizing that the outcome isn't final until the inauguration. The close race increases uncertainty on Election Day and beyond, with states like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin lacking laws to process mail-in ballots quickly, potentially leading to a scenario where Trump appears ahead on election night, only to see his lead diminish as more votes are counted. J&K polls an agitation, not just election for BJP: G Kishan Reddy
agitation) for the BJP as the party strives to safeguard the rights of people of the Union Territory which he said the NC-Congress alliance is out to usurp. Reddy, who is also the party's election in-charge in J&K, alleged during an interaction in Jammu that the NC-Congress pre-poll alliance is a «black alliance» aimed at bringing back the «black law of Article 370», which he referred to as «Jinnah law». «BJP took a historic step in August 2019 but this black coalition of NC and Congress want to bring back Article 370 whose abrogation has liberated the people of J&K and given them the rights enshrined in the Constitution of Babasaheb Ambedkar,» said Reddy. To ensure that the rights of people of J&K are not snatched again, the BJP will work hard to keep the «dark forces» away in the interest of the people of J&K, he said. The BJP minister alleged that 46,000 people have been killed in J&K since 1947 because of the follies of the Congress, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. He said the Congress has again joined hands with the Abdullahs of NC to destroy the region.
