Georgia School Shooting: Who is Colin Gray, father of the 14-year-old suspected gunman?
Georgia state officials arrested Colin Gray, the father of 14-year-old Colt Gray, who is suspected of carrying out Wednesday’s shooting at Apalachee High School. Colt Gray allegedly used an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle in the attack, which left four people dead and nine others wounded. Authorities are investigating how the teenager obtained the weapon that was reportedly purchased by his father months after the family had been questioned about potential school threats. Investigators revealed that Colt Gray's rifle was used to kill two teachers and two students at the high school. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) confirmed Colin Gray's arrest on Thursday. «In coordination with District Attorney Brad Smith, the GBI has arrested Colin Gray, age 54, in connection to the shooting at Apalachee High School. Colin is Colt Gray's father,» the GBI posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. Last year, both father and son were questioned by local authorities after threats appeared on a Discord account hinting at violence at a school. However, at that time, there was no concrete evidence linking them to the threats. Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum explained, «This case was worked, and at the time the boy was 13, and it wasn't enough to substantiate. If we get a judge's order or we charge somebody, we take firearms for safekeeping.»

IRDAI prohibits insurers from collecting premium before policy approval
IRDAI) has introduced new regulations that change how premiums are collected for both life and health insurance policies, particularly those requiring medical examinations. Under the new rules, insurers are no longer allowed to collect the initial premium along with the proposal form unless the policy can be issued immediately based on a declaration of good health. The regulator's move will prevent customer money from sitting idle with insurance companies until a policy is issued, or to avoid complications with refunding premiums if the proposal is rejected or additional requirements are not met. For policies requiring medical checks, insurers will now review and accept the proposal before collecting the premium. As a result, distributors will need to visit customers twice — first to collect necessary documents and then to collect the premium after insurer approval.

SC reserves verdict on Arvind Kejriwal's pleas
Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on pleas filed by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal seeking bail and challenging his arrest by CBI for his alleged involvement in the Delhi excise policy case. Senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Kejriwal, said his arrest was nothing but an «insurance arrest», implying that CBI arrested him only to ensure that even if the CM gets bail in the ED case, he remains behind bars in CBI case. The CBI counsel alleged the Punjab government, at Kejriwal's behest, has denied sanction to prosecute some state officials who allegedly arm-twisted the owner of a Punjab-based distillery to comply with the alleged bribe demands. The counsel said the probe regarding that is stalled since the AAP government there hasn't given sanction under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Chinese spy and top aide of New York mayor got a Ferrari, salted ducks, and a Honolulu apartment as a gift from the government
New York secretly assisted the Chinese government in gaining access to an official call regarding COVID-19 while living a lavish lifestyle as an undercover agent for Beijing. Linda Sun worked her way up to become the governor's deputy chief of staff over a roughly 14-year tenure. Federal prosecutors, however, claim that the 41-year-old secretly shared internal documents with Beijing and prevented Taiwanese diplomats from contacting the state government to help Chinese officials. China is said to have lavished Ms. Sun and her husband, Christopher Hu, with millions of dollars in kickbacks in exchange, enabling them to purchase a $4.1 million (£3.1 million) New York home and other benefits like personalized home delivery of salted duck. Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached a nearly ₹10 lakh fixed deposit of an accused in the alleged leak of medical entrance exam question paper, people in the know said. The agency had launched a probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act based on an FIR registered by CBI. It had issued summons to some of the accused. After conducting a preliminary investigation and identifying the alleged proceeds of crime, it attached the fixed deposit of one of the accused, the people said. The probe is continuing, and the agency is likely to attach the assets of more co-accused in the near future, they said. Last month, the Supreme Court, refusing to order a retest of the NEET-undergraduate examination, told the National Testing Agency that it «cannot afford to misstep, take an incorrect decision and amend it at a later stage». Instead, it should maintain the «highest standards of security and reliability» in conducting important competitive examinations, the top court told the testing agency that conducts the NEET and several other competitive exams.

Trump says he had 'every right' to interfere in 2020 election
Trump, who faces federal and state charges for allegedly trying to overturn his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden, insists he had «every right» to interfere in the election. «Whoever heard you get indicted for interfering with a presidential election where you have every right to do it?» Trump said in a Fox News interview that aired on Sunday. A federal indictment accuses Trump of defrauding the United States by preventing Congress from certifying Biden's victory and depriving voters of their right to a fair election. He faced a revised federal indictment last month accusing him of illegally trying to overturn his 2020 election loss.

HC asks Bengal govt to produce documents on arrest of 4 persons over Nabanna march
Calcutta High Court on Monday asked the West Bengal government to produce all documents related to the arrest of four persons in connection with the August 27 march to state secretariat Nabanna to protest the rape-murder of a doctor in R G Kar hospital. The court questioned the justification for their arrest and subsequent release 24 hours later, and enquired whether proper procedures were followed by police in detaining them. The state told the court that it was a preventive arrest on part of the Howrah city police, who anticipated that the persons might cause serious disturbances during the protest march to Nabanna under the banner of 'Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj'. Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj questioned what specific disturbances were anticipated and why the persons were released 24 hours ahead of the August 27 protest march.
