Hartalika Teej, a significant festival for women in various parts of India, will be observed on Friday, September 6, 2024. This day is marked by dedicated rituals and prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, with women seeking blessings for marital happiness and the well-being of their spouses.
The festival falls on the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of the Bhadrapada month. The auspicious time for the Pratahkala Hartalika Puja is from 6:03 AM to 8:34 AM, lasting for 2 hours and 31 minutes. The Tritiya Tithi begins at 12:21 PM on September 5 and ends at 3:01 PM on September 6.
Hartalika Teej is especially important in North India, where women create statues of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati from sand to worship them. The festival symbolizes the devotion and determination of Goddess Parvati, who, according to legend, was taken to a forest by her friend to prevent her father from marrying her off to Lord Vishnu against her will. This act of devotion led to the observance of Hartalika Teej, where women honor Goddess Parvati’s dedication.
The day begins with an early morning bath using a mixture of sesame and amla powder, followed by dressing in fine clothes and jewelry. Women then take a vow (Sankalp) to observe the Hartalika Vrat to please Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
The Puja starts with the worship of Lord Ganesh, as is customary in Hindu rituals, before moving on to the Shodashopachara
