Completely wrong to misinterpret apex court order on Kejriwal: Kiren Rijiju
interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money-laundering case, after the AAP termed it a «victory of truth» and «defeat of the BJP's conspiracy». The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Kejriwal in a money laundering case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged excise policy scam but he will remain in jail as the CBI had arrested him in a related matter. A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta referred to a larger bench, preferably of five judges, for in-depth consideration of three questions on the aspect of «need and necessity of arrest» under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Rijiju said, «There are reports that Kejriwal has got relief. This is not true. The Supreme Court has vindicated the action taken by the ED.»

Urban flooding havoc: Dig deeper for root causes
these pages that flash floods have long been a feature of life on the Indo-Gangetic floodplains. Archival sources on south Bihar dating back to the 1860s, when India was primarily an agricultural economy, showed that sudden floods during the rainy season were the norm, as the Gangetic riverine network overflowed its banks. These floods, however, receded within days, causing little damage and leaving a layer of fine silt that replenished the soil and enhanced farm productivity.

Watch Dutch PM Mark Rutt leaves PMO on bicycle after serving for 14 years, handing over power to his successor Dick Schoff
Netherlands, outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte bid farewell from his office in The Hague in a uniquely Dutch fashion—by bicycle. After a tenure spanning 14 years, Rutte has passed the baton to Dick Schoof, former intelligence chief, who took the oath of office in a ceremony presided over by King Willem-Alexander. Schoof's appointment marks a notable departure from the traditional political landscape, as he assumes leadership without affiliation to any party and absent from the recent electoral fray. Rutte, meanwhile, is poised to assume the role of secretary-general of NATO, a strategic alliance safeguarding member nations across Europe and North America.

US delays H-1B visa system overhaul, F-1 student protection rules
H-1B visa system haul to the end of the year. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is gearing up to release several significant regulations, with the most anticipated being the modernization of the H-1B program. Earlier this year, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) shifted the H-1B cap lottery to selection by beneficiary rather than registration, alongside measures to prevent fraud. The next phase, slated for December 2024, will enhance cap-gap protections for F-1 students, revise the H-1B specialty occupation definition, expand the Fraud Detection and National Security site visit program, and ensure USCIS adjudicators defer to prior decisions.

Britain prioritising jobs in Tata Steel talks: Minister
Britain's new government is prioritising avoiding job losses in talks with Tata Steel over government backing for a transition to lower-carbon technologies, business minister Jonathan Reynolds said on Sunday. Tata, Britain's biggest steel producer, started closing one of its carbon-intensive blast furnaces on Thursday while the shutdown of its other one is slated for September, resulting in the loss of up to 2,800 jobs at Port Talbot in South Wales. The new government will need to sign the 500 million pound ($635 million) support package the previous government agreed with Tata Steel to help build a lower-carbon electric arc furnace, but unions are hoping for an improved deal with Tata, which could prevent some job losses.

'Corrupt will not be spared...': MoS Bhagirath Choudhary after SC grants interim bail to Delhi CM
Arvind Kejriwal in a case related to the now-scrapped excise policy. Reacting to this, Bhagirath Choudhary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, affirmed that action will be taken against all corrupt individuals, regardless of their party affiliation. Choudhary stated, «Those who are corrupt will not be spared. PM Modi's vision is to make India corruption-free. Action will be taken against the corrupt from any party.» He criticized Kejriwal, alleging a stark transformation from his activist days with Anna Hazare to his current lifestyle. «Kejriwal, who once walked in slippers protesting against Congress, has now spent a fortune on his luxury residence. Be it the liquor scam or Janata clinics, his corrupt practices are evident,» Choudhary added. Choudhary reminisced about the anti-corruption protests led by Anna Hazare and Kejriwal, expressing disappointment in Kejriwal's alleged shift from those ideals. «He may have received interim bail, but once a corrupt leader, always a corrupt leader. These corrupt individuals will face justice. Till they are rooted out, our country cannot progress,» he asserted.

How pigeon exposure can cause irreparable lung disease. Here’s what you must know
health risks. Recent cases have highlighted how prolonged exposure to pigeon feathers and droppings can lead to severe allergic reactions and respiratory issues among residents. Here's detailed information on these risks and what you need to know. Case Study: Allergic reactions in East Delhi A new case study sheds light on the health hazards posed by pigeon droppings and feathers, revealing a troubling incident involving an 11-year-old boy from East Delhi. As per a TOI report, the boy developed severe allergic reactions after prolonged contact with pigeon feathers and droppings, leading to potentially fatal consequences. He was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis (HP), a rare but serious lung condition triggered by allergic reactions to pigeon proteins. Understanding Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis (HP) Dr. Dhiren Gupta, Co-Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) explained to TOI that HP is a chronic interstitial lung disease characterized by lung inflammation and scarring, making breathing difficult. While more common among adults, HP is rare in children, affecting only 2-4 per one lakh population annually. The boy received immediate medical attention, including steroids and high-flow oxygen therapy to reduce lung inflammation and restore normal breathing.
