Sternberg's decision to step down in 2025 came after he was asked by the board in April to continue in the position of chair, considering it «a matter of good succession planning» while they found a suitable replacement. «The board considers that the tenure of the chair should be determined principally by the board's role in providing strategic leadership, governance, challenge and support to the managers,» the directors stated in the trust's latest annual report. India now leading in tech advancements, not playing catch-up: Nvidia South Asia MD
India is leading in technology advancements for the first time, rather than just playing catch-up, said a top executive from American chip major Nvidia on Wednesday. «Why India now? What is it for India now? Will India really succeed? I strongly believe India will succeed. For the simple reason that, for the first time in technology advancements, we're not following; we're leading. We're not just creating; we're innovating on top of it. We are the cradle in which AI will be applied,» said Vishal Dhupar, managing director of Nvidia South Asia. He was speaking at the India Innovation Summit, the flagship national event of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), held annually in Bengaluru.

Two wheels, too many colours: The cycle of political fights in Indian states
Rajasthan's Education Minister, Madan Dilawar, made headlines by announcing that the bicycles distributed to schoolgirls will switch from black to saffron. Dilawar explained that there’s no special reason behind changing the colour of the bicycles. However, he pointed out that during the previous BJP government in Rajasthan, the bicycles were saffron. When the Congress came to power, they changed the colour to black. Dilawar emphasised that saffron is a symbol of valour and bravery, recalling that patriots wore this colour during India’s independence movement. «With this thought in mind, we have decided to change the colour to saffron,» he said. The free bicycle scheme in Rajasthan started in 2009 to help girls stay in school, as many drop out in Class 9 due to transportation issues. Over 7 lakh girls are eligible for these bicycles, and the government also provides a travel allowance to those living within three to five kilometres of their school.

Double tax for NRIs if this form is not filed and foreign tax credit is not claimed
NRI) who has filed an income tax return (ITR) while claiming relief for income tax and double taxation, it's important to follow additional procedures. Failure to do so could lead to rejection of your claim by the tax department. If your claim for double taxation relief is rejected, you'll be impacted in two ways. First, you'll have to pay income tax according to the laws of the foreign country where you're a resident. Second, you'll also have to pay income tax in India. To save NRIs from this trouble, the Indian government has signed a Double Tax Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) with more than 90 countries including USA, the UK, Korea and Taiwan.

Next 6 months, expect power financiers, insurance & MF companies to beat banks: Ajay Bagga
Ajay Bagga, Market Expert, says the rural economy coming back is the bigger story. For banks, the issue is twofold. One is there is going to be a NIM compression given that there is a deposit war out there and that sustainable funding is still being sought. A big chunk of the financial savings are going into the markets through various instruments like mutual funds, insurance, provident funds, NPS, or direct investments. Bank deposits are hurting. They have to increase rates and that is causing a NIM compression. Long-term, banks will do well as they are the suppliers to a growing economy. But in the next six months, one can find much better returns in power financiers or insurance or mutual fund companies. How are you looking at the entire IT space, given that we have seen an outperformance continuing into this month? What do you expect the remainder of the year is likely to bring for the IT space? Ajay Bagga: IT is looking good. There is continued buying in IT and we expect better results coming in. The AI part, was the cause for worry and we had seen the employee headcount going down as well. Now we are seeing several end uses of AI coming in. The semiconductor companies, as the suppliers of the AI chain, were doing very well and the end user companies were looking at end-use cases, and in the centre were our IT companies.
