Highlighting the lack of climate awareness among the youth, Solanki advocated for the «Avoid, Minimize, Generate» strategy as key to mitigating the crisis. The IIT professor was speaking at a lecture session hosted by Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University on 'Environment-Friendly Energy Product Startups.' The lecture provided a comprehensive '6-Point Understanding' of climate change, focusing on the challenges and necessary corrective actions. Speaking to TOI on the sidelines of the session, Prof. Solanki said many young people are increasingly unaware of climate change, with some not even discussing the issue. He attributed this to the lack of emphasis or discussion from influential figures in their lives, such as parents, teachers, professors, influencers, and spiritual leaders. Even when climate change is addressed, it is often only at a superficial level, leaving young people with a shallow understanding of the issue.

Air India on Thursday announced that it will temporarily operate additional flights to Kolkata from four Indian cities to meet greater travel demand to the city during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities. Starting 20 September 2024, Air India will operate daily, non-stop flights to Kolkata from Bengaluru and Hyderabad for nearly a month. The airline has also increased frequency to Kolkata from Delhi effective 15 August 2024, and from Mumbai effective 25 September 2024.

civil aviation ministry on Thursday announced simplified regulations for seaplane operations, including allowing non-scheduled entities to operate such services and putting in place a simplified certificate process. The relaxed norms are aimed at encouraging seaplane operations under the regional air connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik). Generally, seaplanes are amphibian aircraft that can take off and land on the sea. Under the relaxed norms of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), there will be no need for a waterdrome license and compliance requirements have also been reduced.

Ghaziabad's stamp and registration department has received only 20 objections to the proposed 15 per cent to 20 per cent hike in circle rates for both residential and commercial properties. The window for filing objections or providing feedback will close in three days, with the revised rates expected to take effect on September 15, following the government's redressal of concerns on August 28, a TOI report stated.

RBI) has announced that there will not be any pre-debit notification on auto-replenishment of FASTag and NCMC, as and when the balance falls below the preset limit. In its monetary policy meeting held in June 2024, the RBI announced the inclusion of recurring payments for Fastag, National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), etc. with auto-replenishment facility under the e-mandate framework. The RBI circular dated August 22, 2024 said, “It has been decided to include auto-replenishment of FASTag and NCMC, as and when the balance falls below a threshold set by the customer, under the e-mandate framework. Payments for auto-replenishment, since they are recurring in nature but without any fixed periodicity, will be exempt from the requirement of pre-debit notification”

Delhi government has proposed long-term solutions to tackle the persistent problem of waterlogging during the monsoon season. The measures include enhancing technology for monitoring the drainage system, addressing the conflict of multiple authorities, finding permanent solutions for chronic waterlogging at specific points, removing encroachments, and effectively managing construction, demolition, and dairy waste. These efforts are aimed at preventing waterlogging by improving existing infrastructure and coordination among various agencies. A detailed report based on assessments by multiple government agencies, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi Development Authority, has been prepared to identify lasting solutions, reported TOI. The report points out several critical drawbacks, such as the presence of multiple agencies, the lack of stormwater outfall in many unauthorized colonies and slum clusters, and silt buildup in drains that reduces their carrying capacity. «In a step to fix multiplicity of authority, we have assigned responsibility, management and operations of 22 drains that have their outfall in the Yamuna to a single department — irrigation and flood control,» TOI quoted a government official as saying, on Wednesday. The Delhi government is also taking other steps to address the issue of multiple agencies.
