India's wholesale inflation quickens to 2.38% in February from 2.31% in January
wholesale inflation quickened to 2.38 per cent in February on an annual basis, as against 2.31 per cent in January, government data showed on Monday. As per data released by the centre earlier this month, India’s retail inflation eased to a seven-month low of 3.61% in February, down from 4.31% in January. The decline was largely driven by lower food prices, with food inflation—comprising nearly half of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket—falling to 3.75% in February from 5.97% in January. Eggs, burgers, and $5,000: How small towns in the US are attracting big-city workers
Indiana, Kentucky, and Mississippi are attracting workers away from big cities and into rural and suburban areas, according to a report by Fortune. The report states that these towns are offering a range of perks, from something as simple as free eggs to relocation grants of up to $5,000. According to Fortune, Noblesville is providing a $5,000 relocation grant, annual memberships to the town’s coworking space and chamber of commerce, and even a $500 health and wellness stipend. «New Haven, IN, is offering burgers and bourbon with the mayor. In Wabash County, IN, you can join your neighbors on a rafting trip. In Mayfield, KY, they are offering a monthly gift of a dozen locally sourced eggs,» the report added. Amid rising housing costs, struggling education and healthcare systems, and hopes for better infrastructure, many Americans are now considering a move to smaller towns. Citing an analysis from Realtor.com, the report claimed that millennials, in particular, are relocating to small towns and rural areas at the highest rate seen in decades.

Modi speaking Trump's language: Congress on PM's remarks on global organisations
Congress on Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks in a podcast on the relevance of global organisations, claiming that the PM is clearly going out of his way to keep US President Donald Trump in good humour and «repeating his good friend's chant». In his interaction with American podcaster and computer scientist Lex Fridman, Modi emphasised the need for synchronisation and collaboration to propel global initiatives forward. He also addressed the relevance of global organisations like the United Nations, noting that their inability to evolve with the times has sparked a global debate on their relevance. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said, «Mr. Modi clearly is going out of his way to keep Mr. Trump in good humour.» «He says international organisations, from which India has benefited immensely, have become irrelevant. »This is the US President's language. In fact, it is Mr. Trump who is doing his best to make them irrelevant and now Mr. Modi is repeating 'his good friend's' chant," Ramesh claimed.

'On the edge...': What social media conversations reveal about the current market mood
market participants to gauge the sentiments around the stock market, social media, of late, has become a breeding ground for such discourse and analysis. Sometimes, this can provide valuable insights into market sentiment, investor behaviour, and emerging trends. A causal analysis of the comments over the past few days on social media platforms like X and Reddit suggest that the market sentiments are bleak among various users and for that matter, even experts. Market veteran Shankar Sharma recently commented that the current downturn in Indian equities is completely local and that India needs to find its own solutions. Other commentators like Nithin Kamath, Samir Arora have all acknowledged that current markets are bearish in nature.

Last men standing: How mutual fund investors are holding the line against ruthless FIIs
foreign institutional investors (FIIs), who have been unloading Indian equities at an alarming pace. Since the market peaked in September 2024, FIIs have pulled out a staggering Rs 2.13 lakh crore, testing the resilience of India's stock market. Yet, domestic mutual fund investors have fought back, pouring in nearly Rs 1.88 lakh crore between October and February—emerging as the last line of defence against the selloff. In February 2025, even as volatility rattled the markets, mutual fund inflows remained positive for the 48th consecutive month, coming in at Rs 29,303 crore. While this marked a 26% decline from January, it highlighted the unwavering commitment of domestic investors, who have kept faith in Indian equities despite global headwinds. Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) contributions remained strong at Rs 25,999 crore—surpassing the September figure of Rs 24,509 crore and underscoring the growing financial discipline of retail investors.

US and Iran-backed Houthis both vow escalation after airstrikes target rebels in Yemen
The Houthi-run Health Ministry said the overnight U.S. strikes killed at least 53 people, including five women and two children, and wounded almost 100 in the capital of Sanaa and other provinces, including Saada, the rebels' stronghold on the border with Saudi Arabia. «We're not going to have these people controlling which ships can go through and which ones cannot. And so your question is, how long will this go on? It will go on until they no longer have the capability to do that,» Secretary of State Marco Rubio told CBS on Sunday. He said these are not the one-off retaliation strikes the Biden administration carried out after Houthi attacks. President Donald Trump on Saturday vowed to use «overwhelming lethal force» until the Houthis cease their attacks, and warned that Tehran would be held «fully accountable» for their actions. The Houthis have repeatedly targeted international shipping in the Red Sea, sinking two vessels, in what they call acts of solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel has been at war with Hamas, another Iranian ally.

Why financial investments, and not your cherished antique collection, will make for the best inheritance gift
antiques, paintings, chinaware and jewellery. Why was he unhappy? Inheritance is money one has not earned. Not everyone is pleased with the windfall. There was a time when the outlook for the future seemed bleak in the minds of the younger generation. Widespread unemployment, poverty and scarcity made many believe that becoming rich was tough, if not impossible. We now live in times when the younger generation is more confident, positive and capable of earning and living well. So, don’t they need their parents’ wealth? Wealth is welcome, but not as unconditionally as before. The younger generation is not desperate, eager to grab what has been left behind, and devise quick ways to use it. If feeling guilty about the largesse seems surprising, being confused, exhausted and isolated is real. Imagine inheriting a bungalow full of stuff that one has to spend days sifting through. One does not even know if something is valuable, and whether there is a market for a seemingly exotic painting.
