US International Development Finance Corporation or DFC, Norway government-owned Norfund and two other financiers have provided $1 billion in funding to waste-to-energy producer SAEL Industries, the company said in a release on Tuesday. Asian Development Bank and Tata Cleantech Capital are the other financiers. The company did not provide a break up of how much of the funding was in the form of debt and what component was an equity investment. ET had reported on 18 January that SAEL Industries was close to finalising a $1 billion funding.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday announced that his government would provide 20 lakh houses to the poor in the state by 2027. Addressing the beneficiaries of 'Abua Awas Yojana' (AAY), a state government-sponsored housing scheme, at Torpa in Khunti district, Soren said that the JMM-led dispensation had demanded eight lakh houses for the poor from the Centre as it had promised to provide accommodations to all the poor. «Initially, the Centre had accepted that Jharkhand has four lakh poor people.

Telecom infrastructure providers are seeking availability of input tax credit on telecom towers, and have made a plea for an increase in tax depreciation rate and rationalisation of TDS provisions in their Budget wishlist. The players under the aegis of Digital Infrastructure Providers' Association (DIPA) said measures to facilitate ease of doing business will increase investment and contribute to the industry's long-term growth. Being a sunrise sector, telecom has been providing affordable-quality assured communication services, DIPA noted. The association counts Summit Digitel, American Towers, Indus Towers, Ascend Telecom, Cloud Extel, Pratap Technocrats, Crest Digitel, Signotox Towers, Applied Solar Technologies, iBUS Networks, and Suyog Telematics, among its members. DIPA in a release said the telecom infrastructure industry is seeking government support for the availability of input tax credit on telecom towers, increase in tax depreciation rate to 65 per cent from 15 per cent on batteries for industrial and commercial use to ensure cost recovery within three years' economic life of the batteries.

Earlier this month, Brookfield trumped infrastructure investment group I Squared Capital to buy 100% ownership in ATC India in a $2.5-billion (about Rs 21,000 crore) all-cash deal likely to close in the second half of 2024. Kerala government has announced that it will consider the absence of government employees participating in Wednesday's one-day strike as unauthorised and deduct one day's pay from their February salary, a TOI report stated. A group of state government employees, supported by opposition employee unions, has decided to go on strike on Wednesday. They are protesting against the delay in receiving dearness allowance arrears and other benefits. The government's decision regarding unauthorised absence was issued by the general administration department.
