Hopes hinge on better margins for pharma & higher volumes for healthcare in ‘Samvat 2080’
In the lexicon of the Indian bourses ‘Samvat 2080’ is more than the traditional Hindu accounting year beginning today. As always, there is a renewed air of anticipation as the bourses herald the new Samvat with their decades-old practice of Muhurat (auspicious hour) trading. Post the pandemic, while the businesses have rebound with airlines, hotel-chains, cab-hire outfits getting busy, hospitals are also seeing increased footfalls with patients preferring a physical meet with the physicians than over a zoom call and other health needs that took a back seat during the pandemic getting priority. What then is the outlook for the pharmaceutical industry and the healthcare providers.

7 years' jail 'high' for offence of causing death by negligence, says parl panel
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, headed by BJP MP Brijlal, also observed that the 10-year jail suggested in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for those who cause death of a person by rash or negligent act and escape from the scene of the incident or fail to report the incident to police or a magistrate, needed to further be deliberated for whether the clause should be retained at all. «The committee feels that the punishment provided under clause 104(1) is high as compared to the provision for the same offence under section 304A of IPC.

Apple’s top iPhone supplier goes to outer space with new satellites
outer space. Two prototype low-Earth orbit satellites made by Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., better known as Foxconn, took off aboard a SpaceX rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in southern California on Saturday. The launch of the LEO satellites marks a key moment for the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer as it diversifies into new sectors, a shift that is taking greater urgency as some of its established businesses such as smartphones and laptops struggle. Foxconn is aiming to demonstrate that it has satellite technology to tap growing demand for communications from space. While Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp. has made and launched more than 5,000 LEO satellites for its Starlink constellation, Foxconn is betting it will be able to make satellites primarily for corporate and government clients. The satellites, co-developed with Taiwan’s National Central University, are the size of a backpack, weigh about 9 kilograms (20 pounds) each and carry cameras, communication devices and other equipment. They are designed to orbit Earth every 96 minutes at an altitude of 520 kilometers (323 miles).

data law will restrict the scope of their operations, legal experts aware of the matter said. The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill, which received the President’s assent on August 11, has proposed that companies and businesses — which collect and store user data and are termed as data fiduciaries — cannot process the personal data of any user without explicit consent. It requires them to specifically state the “purpose” for which data is collected and to also delete information when user consent is withdrawn.
