Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Act needs to be amended to protect such entities and settle disputes between buyers and sellers through an online dispute system, MSME secretary SCL Das said Saturday. Banks, while lending to such businesses, should also look at factors like cash flow and digital footprint besides balance sheet, he advised. «We need to amend the MSMED Act to make the legal mechanism for protecting MSMEs more effective, especially for settling disputes between buyers and sellers through an online dispute system,» Das said at an event organised by the Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has inked a near ₹13,500-crore deal with Finland's Nokia to buy equipment over a three-year span for its 4G network expansion and 5G roll out. Multiple persons privy to the deal details said Nokia will supply 4G and 5G network equipment to Vi in nine circles. The Finnish gear maker will supply Vi its 5G AirScale network gear portfolio and also upgrade the telco's existing 4G network with multiband radios and baseband equipment, which can also support 5G. The deal is part of Vi's recently announced plans to buy $3.6 billion (read: ₹30,000 crore) of 4G and 5G gear from Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung over a three-year span to bolster its 4G operation and roll out 5G networks in key cities across its 17 priority circles. The move was seen as a significant step from Vi to improve its competitiveness in the market against bigger adversaries Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel and also stem customer losses.

Narendra Modi on Saturday said BJP will form the government in Jammu and Kashmir by winning an absolute majority in the ongoing assembly elections in the union territory. The repayment of the loan is planned through the revenue generated from the sale tower of the project, which is scheduled to be launched next month. The redevelopment project has a total saleable area of 1.65 lakh sq ft and is estimated to have a revenue potential of Rs 650 crore.

iron ore and manganese ore witnessed a growth during the April-August period of the ongoing fiscal. The output of iron ore rose by 7.4 per cent to 116 million tonnes (MT) during the said period compared to 108 MT registered in the corresponding period of previous fiscal, according to a provisional data released by the mines ministry. The production of manganese ore jumped by 15.4 per cent to 1.5 MT during the April-August period as compared to 1.3 MT in the previous financial year, the ministry said in a statement. Iron ore accounts for about 70 per cent of the total mineral production in terms of value.

Another consignment of the same amount of 'Padmar Ilish' (hilsa caught from Padma river), a favourite delicacy of Bengalis, is expected very soon. The Fish Importers' Association recently wrote to Bangladesh's interim government urging it to allow export of Hilsa as it has been doing during the festival as a goodwill gesture for the last five years. «The first consignment of over 50 metric tonnes arrived two days back via Petrapole border. It was sent to several wholesale markets in Kolkata and districts. Another consignment of around 50 MT is expected to arrive in a day,» Association secretary Syed Anwar Maqsood told PTI.

Goods and Services (GST) Act with effect from November 1, 2024. Announced in Budget 2024, section 128A is a new section that provides some relief to individuals and companies registered under GST. MUDA scam, BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Saturday alleged that both the "Gandhi family" and Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has indulged in the corruption because if they were honest, then they could have removed Siddaramaiah from his post. Accusing Congress of corruption, Bhandari said that only "Operation Corruption" is being run by the Congress to loot as much of public money as they can. "Karnataka High Court didn't comment anything on HD Kumaraswamy, it commented against Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah that he has taken Rs 55 crore. He himself went to the Karnataka HC against the Special Court order. When HC gave him relief against the governor's sanction, they accepted it, but, now, when it said that he is corrupt, then he termed it as 'Operation Lotus'," Bhandari said.

Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday said that there were no changes made to the overseas citizenship of India (OCI) rules. “We have come across news reports spreading false information that restrictions have been placed on OCI card holders in the recent past,” said the Consulate General of India, New York. It further said, “Friends in the Indian American community are hereby informed that no new change has been introduced in the recent past for OCI card holders. Provisions of Gazette Notification http://F.No. 26011/CC/05/2018-OCI dated March 4, 2021 regarding rights of OCI cardholders continue to remain in force.”

Uttarakhand is set to introduce “«stringent land purchase law» in the next budget session of assembly to keep a check on large-scale land purchase in hilly areas from other parts of the country. The upcoming move was disclosed by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday, reported TOI. Further, the government is planning to identify non-residents who have violated existing norms, which allow only 250 sqm of land to be bought for personal use in non-municipal areas. By doing this, it will reclaim land that is illegally acquired. There have been seveal allegations where buyers have flouted norms by acquiring land in the names of relatives or failed to meet the commitments they made when purchasing land for commercial use, and instead «increased their personal land bank.»

Karnataka, seeking a CBI probe against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with the alleged MUDA scam. Advocate Vasant Kumar, representing petitioner activist Snehamayi Krishna on Friday said that they have filed a writ petition and are seeking High Court directions to handover the case to the CBI to carry out a fair investigation in the writ petition. «Today we have filed a writ petition making appeal to direct to hand over the MUDA investigation to the CBI, it will come hearing on Monday. we have also referred in the yesterday's special court order in the petition, prima facie is that MUDA is a big scam, that's why we have requested the high court for the CBI inquiry in the case for the free and fair inquiry into the case,» Kumar told ANI.
